Max with Minium goes in-depth on what the tennis titles have added to this already highly successful season.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Showtime. The quest begins NOW.

Fresh off a sweep of the Sun Belt Conference Championships, the ODU tennis squad are set to kick off their NCAA Tournament journey beginning this afternoon in Raleigh.

Both teams drew the same opponent, South Carolina.

The men’s team is set to take the courts on Friday afternoon at 1, while the women will open up play on Saturday at 11 am.

🔼 Hey Arnold! It may have been only one season, but Emma Arnold left her impact on the ODU women’s lacrosse program.

A grad transfer from Lindenwood, Arnold led the Monarchs in goals and points in her only season in Norfolk, scoring 33 goals and 41 points this season. She started all 16 games, and also led the Monarchs with 57 draw controls and 27 caused turnovers.

For her outstanding play, Arnold was named to the First Team All-Conference squad this week.

🔼 Dancing On Their Own. While both the ODU men’s and women’s tennis squads are ready for the opening round of the big dance this weekend.

Some members of both squads have already secured spots to dance on their own at the 2024 NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships later this month.

On the women’s side, Sofia Johnson earned the Sun Belt’s automatic bid, while the brotherly duo of Connor van Schalkwyk and Codie van Schalkwyk earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Doubles Championships.

The NCAA Singles & Doubles Championships will run May 20-25 at the Greenwood Tennis Center on the campus of Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The tournament draw will be announced on May 19.

🔼 Award Winning Duo. We’ll take two, please!

Rider Odom was named the MAISA Sports Person of the Year, while Odom and Parker Purrington earned second team All-MAISA honors, the MAISA announced on Wednesday.

Odom and Purrington have each been four-year starters for the Monarchs as skippers, helping ODU to a 13th place finish at last year’s open western semifinals.

This year, the Monarchs qualified as an at-large entry into the open semifinals which commence on May 24-25 in Boston, Massachusetts.
