TGIF Monarchs. With the weather getting a little warmer, it might be time to hit a local trail or head out for a hike here sometime soon.

The ODU women’s hoops squad got a jump on everyone else and climbed their own mountain on Thursday night picking up a big Sun Belt conference victory as they face the final few weeks of the regular season.

We’ve got all the details and much more in today’s edition of the Brew!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Mountain Climbed. Head Coach DeLisha Milton-Jones might keep that halftime speech in the back pocket.

After her team held a one-point lead at halftime, the Lady Monarchs burst out in the third quarter with a 28-point frame en route to a dominant 81-62 victory on the road at App State on Thursday night.

En’Dya Buford and Brenda Fontana each knocked down three 3-pointers to lead the offensive attack with 17 apiece. Simone Cunningham notched her third double-double in the past four games with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Mimi McCollister chipped in 10 points and four assists for ODU.

🔼 Rammin’ It Home. You always remember the first, especially when it comes against your in-state rival.

The ODU women’s lacrosse squad picked up its first win of the 2024 season in an absolute thriller as senior Olivia Tannebeger found the back of the net with under two minutes to play to lift the Lady Monarchs past VCU, 8-7, on Wednesday afternoon in Norfolk.

🔼 Young Gun. He may only be in his first season of collegiate tennis, but Connor Van Schalkwyk is making quite a first impression.

After a 4-0 weekend, the freshman was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week.

He and his teammates are now 9-1 after a weekend sweep of VCU and Penn State. The Monarchs currently sit in the top-50 (47th) in the latest ITA rankings.

The Dueling Pianos is back at Apex Entertainment in Virginia Beach! This show will take place on Friday, March 1st and tickets are still available! Enjoy three hours of music, fun and food!

🔼 Earning Their Stripes. When you get a chance to compete against the best in the country, you’re doing something right.

Two of ODU’s own are doing exactly that this weekend as ODU stars Myah Conway and LeeAnne Lowery are headed to Colorado Springs to compete in the Women’s National Team Open Program.

The program will be held Feb. 23-25 at the Olympic and Paralympic Training Center and is open to current and recently graduated college-age athletes born between 1999-2005. WNTOP is used for consideration for selection to both the U.S. National Team as well as the Women's Collegiate National Team.
