🏈 DATE WITH THE DEMON DEACONS

For the second straight season, an ACC opponent is coming to Norfolk.

This time, Wake Forest visits Ballard Stadium for the first time in program history after their 2020 visit was cancelled.

After an absolute thriller last Saturday over an upstart Louisiana squad, the Monarchs will look to continue their momentum against a 2-0 Wake Forest team that has notched wins against Elon (37-17) and Vanderbilt (36-20).

The Demon Deacons will be playing their first road game of the 2023 season.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Grant The Great. Two games into his Monarch career and QB1 is adding to his resume.

In just his second career start, Grant Wilson completed 13-of-19 passes for 247 yards and four touchdown passes and ran for one as well in Old Dominion's 38-31 win over Louisiana on Saturday night.

Wilson is tied for ninth in the country this season with six touchdown passes.

🔼 There Goes That Man Again. Different year, same result.

It’s the fourth weekly conference accolade of his career and second in the Sun Belt.

Henderson currently sits third in the country with 28 tackles through the first two weeks of the season. 2

🔼 Tribal Takedown. It’s been 11 years since the ODU men’s soccer program went unbeaten through the first five games of the season.

Heading into Sun Belt conference play, that’s exactly where the Monarchs (2-0-3) find themselves after a thrilling 1-0 shutout victory on the road at local rival William & Mary on Tuesday night.

It’s the second straight clean sheet for the Blue & White with sophomore keeper Michael Statham coming up with six saves in the victory. Pierce Galloway, a grad student transfer from Williamette, scored his first ODU goal with 10 minutes left in the second half and that would be enough.

🔼 Teeing Off. ODU’s men’s golf team got their 2023-24 campaign off and running this week, earning a top-five finish at the 2023 River Run Collegiate in Davidson, N.C.

As a team, the Monarchs recorded rounds of 288 and 279 on Monday. ODU then recorded a 283 in the final round on Tuesday to finish with a 10-over par total of 850. Last year, the Monarchs finished 13th at the same event, this year, they jumped eight spots to land in the top-five.

🤔 MONARCH TRIVIA

Earlier we mentioned that this fall is the first time since 2012 that the ODU men’s soccer program has started a season unbeaten through the first five games of the season.

In 2012, the Monarchs got off to a 6-0 start on their way to the CAA Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

During that 2012 CAA Championship game, the Blue & White won a thrilling 1-0 victory. Which Monarch scored the game-winner in that title game?

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: Ivan Militar.

In a battle of two top-25 teams (ODU was 24, Northeastern was 25), sophomore midfielder Ivan Militar scored less than 10 minutes into the second half to supply the game-winner for the Monarchs.
