🔼 Monarch Magic. There’s one thing that you can never, ever, question about the 2023 ODU Football team… their heart.

Through injuries, adversity and more one-score games than anyone in the country, the Monarchs found themselves needing heart one more time and that’s exactly what they showed.

Down 24-14 with under two minutes to play, ODU got a field goal, safety and this last second TD scamper from Grant Wilson to earn a second bowl bid in three seasons with a 25-24 victory over Georgia State.

Wilson finished with 288 yards passing, while Obie Sanni had 10 carries for 85 yards with a TD for the Monarchs.

Defensively, ODU lost two of its top defenders, Jason Henderson and LaMareon James, in the first half, but Wayne Matthews (16 tackles, 2 TFLs, 1 forced fumble) and Shawn Asbury (10 tackles) stepped up to stifle the Panthers in the second half.

🔼 Working Overtime. While most folks across the country enjoyed an extended weekend around Thanksgiving, the ODU men’s basketball team decided to work a little overtime.

The men’s hoops squad decided to follow a little bit of the football team’s lead, coming back from a halftime deficit and earning a hard-fought, gritty, 68-61 over former conference foe, Drexel, on Sunday afternoon at Chartway Arena.

Oregon transfer and Philadelphia, Pa. native Tyrone Williams was huge for the Monarchs, pouring in a team-high 21 points and grabbing 12 rebounds for his second double-double in four games at ODU.

Junior Chaunce Jenkins was once again in double-figures, scoring 18 and dishing out four assists.

🤝 GRATEFUL FOR OUR ODU FAMILY

When we talk about the ODU Family.

This, this is what it’s all about. The impact we have on our Monarchs during their time in Norfolk leads to them being a part of the Grey & Blue for all-time.

Former ODU star Taylor Heinicke stepped up and showed once again, “Once A Monarch, Always A Monarch”.

🤔 MONARCH TRIVIA

Saturday’s thrilling come-from-behind win was the third largest in program history as the Monarchs roared from 21 down at half to pick up the victory.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: 28 points - 2018 vs. North Texas

With under four minutes to play in the first half against North Texas, ODU found themselves down 28-0 on Nov. 10, 2018. 10 points to close out the half sparked the improbable comeback as the Monarchs scored 34 of the game’s final 37 points to pick up a 34-31 win.
