Monarch Brew 5/13: Crunch Time

Baseball Battling For Sun Belt Tourney Spot In Final Week

Good Morning ODU Fam. Well, if you have any fingernails left ODU fans, you might need them this week.

It’s the final week of the baseball season and every pitch counts, because it’s crunch time.

We’ll get you ready for a big week in today’s Brew! Check it out below!

⚾️ Crunch Time
👏 What It’s All About
👑 And much, much more!

🎉 NOW THAT’S A SENDOFF

In a place that saw so many memories made, incredible plays, outstanding players and so much more.

There was no other way to close out the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex than a walk-off HR.

What a way to close the doors!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Crunch Time. With only one week left until the start of the Sun Belt Baseball Tournament, ODU baseball has officially entered Crunch Time.

Entering the final week of conference play, there are five teams vying for the final four spots. The Monarchs sit in a tie with Coastal Carolina and South Alabama, with the trio having a game lead on both Texas State and Georgia State.

Who’s on tap for ODU? The Panthers of Georgia State.

Texas State and South Alabama are set to play the top two teams in the Sun Belt, while Coastal battles with Marshall.

Nothing like the feel of playoff baseball!

🔼 Making Waves. Step-by-step. Wave-by-wave.

Taking the water at American Athletic Championships, the ODU rowing team grabbed a fifth place finish and improved each of their times from last year’s performance.

“I’m really proud of our team. We had a lot of new people on the team this year and today the team raced and performed better than we had last year in all boats.  It’s not the results by any means that we are satisfied with, but now we are in conversations about being able to compete,” ODU Head Coach Brian Conley said.

👏 WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT!

Sure, the championships, wins, trophies and so much more are awesome.

But this, this is what it’s all about! Congrats to all the Monarch student-athletes who earned their diplomas last weekend!

🎾 MORE THAN A MATCH

Sure, the championships were incredible. The NCAA Tournaments were memorable.

But for ODU women’s tennis star Alex Viktorovitch, her collegiate tennis career means a little more.

It was during her freshman year with the Monarchs that Viktorovitch’s world changed and Max with Minium gave us an in-depth story of her and her family’s journey.

🤔 MONARCH TRIVIA

Next week, Sofia Johnson will head to Stillwater to compete in the NCAA Singles Championships.
