🔼 Still Hunting. The road was certainly not going to be easy.

Facing off against one of the nation’s top team wasn’t an easy path, but the Monarchs are still hunting in Montgomery, Ala. as ODU pulled off a huge upset earlier this week, taking down #21 Louisiana in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

ODU reached the winner’s bracket semifinals before dropping a tough 8-6 decision to Georgia Southern on Thursday night.

Now, the Monarchs take on in-state rival JMU for a shot to play Georgia Southern yet again with a possible spot in the Sun Belt Championship game on the line.

🔼 What A Run. When you accomplish something that’s only been done by two others in the past 25 years, it’s pretty special.

That’s exactly what ODU women’s tennis junior Sofia Johnson did this spring, reaching the round of 16 at the NCAA Singles Championships to earn All-American status. On Wednesday, she dropped a heartbreaker to Georgia’s Anastasiia Lopata to wrap up her historic season.

She finished the year 21-11 in singles going 7-2 in league play all at No. 1 in the lineup. Johnson also became the first Sun Belt Conference player since 2014 to earn All-American honors.

✍️ MAX WITH MINIUM: A NEW HOME

As ODU is enjoying its stay at the Sun Belt Tournament this week, four members of the squad have been enjoying new roles at their new school.

All four played and starred for baseball programs in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, one of the best Division III leagues in the nation.

One played on a national championship team. All four excelled academically and were named to various all-league teams.

And last spring, when their seasons ended, they shared a common yearning. They wanted more. They wanted to transfer to a Division I program and see how they could compete against the best.

So pitcher Brandon Pond from the University of Lynchburg, infielder/outfielder Hunter Cole from Randolph-Macon, pitcher Aiden Kuhle from Roanoke University and pitcher Jay Cassady from Christopher Newport all transferred to ODU.
