Monarch Brew 9/6: Coming Home

Football, Field Hockey, Soccer, Sailing All In Action At Home This Weekend

Good Morning Monarchs. Dorothy taught us years ago that there’s no place like home.

Our Monarchs get to show that to some opponents this weekend as we have four different programs in action at home this weekend.

Coming off a long Labor Day weekend, what’s better than cheering on the Blue & White? Nothing, absolutely nothing is the answer.

What else can we stir into today’s edition of the Brew? Check it out!

🔼 Home Sweet Home. There’s no place like home, there’s no place like home.

We are just 3️⃣ days away from ODU Football’s home opener against Louisiana.

Junior QB Grant Wilson tossed two TDs in his Monarch debut this past weekend and can’t wait to get in front of the home fans on Saturday night. Classmate Jason Henderson is now just 25 tackles away from becoming the just the fourth ODU player all-time to reach 300+ career tackles.

The Monarchs are 54-30 all-time in S.B. Ballard Stadium, good for a .643 winning percentage.

🔼 What a Battle. The ODU volleyball team continued to send a message to team’s in the state with yet another battle with an in-state rival, this time, from the ACC.

The Monarchs traveled to Charlottesville on Tuesday night and gave the Cavaliers all they could handle and fought until literally the very last possible point, but ultimately fell, 3-2, and a fifth set that included an 18-16 tiebreak.

Bryanna Jones and Myah Conway both had 13 kills apiece, Teresa Atilano had 41 assists and 10 digs, while Bailey Burgess had a team-high six blocks on the night. Jones added 18 digs and two blocks in the contest as well.

🔼 Back On The Links. There were a lot of folks on golf courses on Labor Day weekend. However, the ODU women’s golf team was on the links for business purposes.

Klara Wildhaber was the top finisher for ODU, tying for 43rd with a three-round total of 224 (+8). The senior from Fribourg, Sweden opened the Classic with an even 72 and added a 74 and 78 for her next two rounds.

The Monarchs will have a couple of weeks to prepare for the Lady Paladin Invitational, hosted at the Furman University Golf Club on Sept. 22-24.

🔼 First Impressions. You know what they say about first impressions, right?

The freshman from Urtecht, Netherlands earned her first shutout in ODU's 3-0 win over Central Michigan on Friday. Broers carried her performance into Sunday when she made seven saves against #4 Michigan despite getting the loss to the Wolverines in overtime.

🤔 MONARCH TRIVIA

The ODU women’s soccer team has played 540 minutes of soccer this fall.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: TWO!

With just one goal in 540 minutes, the Monarchs are currently tied for second in the country in goals against average, tied with Clemson and Wake Forest.

Providence currently sits as the only team in the country to not allow a goal, having played five games so far.

🦁 Have a great Wednesday, y’all!
