Monarch Brew 3/1: Wake Up, It's The First Of The Month

The Madness of March Arrives

TGIF ODU Fam. This is how we feel now that March has arrived!

One last dance on the hardwood and plenty of road Ws to celebrate!

We’ll take you through it all and much more in today’s edition of the Brew!

🏀 One Last Dance
🏈 Widin’ Out
🎾 Rollin’ On The River
👑 And much, much more!

🏀 A NEW ERA

A new era is set to begin in Norfolk.

Later this morning, ODU will introduce its new men’s basketball head coach to the public. The press conference is set to begin at 10:45 am and will be held in the Big Blue Room of Chartway Arena and the media and public are encouraged to attend.

Parking will be available in the parking garage on 43rd street adjacent to the Big Blue Room.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 One Last Dance. Tonight, both ODU hoops squads hit the court for regular season finales heading into next week’s Sun Belt Championships.

The men’s squad heads south to battle Georgia Southern, while the women’s team welcomes in-state rival JMU.

The winner of tonight’s showdown at Chartway between the Lady Monarchs and Dukes will be the third seed in the upcoming Sun Belt Tournament.

🔼 Widin’ Out. Trading Rocky Top for the beach, not a bad trade, huh?

The newest face on the Monarch sidelines has just done that as Coach Rahne announced the addition of Kody Cook as the new Wide Receivers coach for ODU.

Cook comes to ODU after spending two years as assistant wide receivers coach at Tennessee. In his two years with the Volunteers, Cook helped Tennessee to an 11-2 record in 2022 and a win over Clemson in the Orange Bowl, and this past season the Vols went 9-4 with a win over Iowa in the Citrus Bowl.

🔼 Rollin’ On The River. It was a nice little mid-week trip to the River City for the ODU women’s tennis squad.

A thrilling come-from-behind win by freshman Ulyana Romanova led the Lady Monarchs to a thrilling comeback to beat #47 VCU in Richmond on Wednesday afternoon.

The win completes the tennis sweep of the Rams as the men toppled VCU earlier in February.

🔼 Farming A W. While the women’s tennis team grinded out a W in Richmond, the ODU women’s lacrosse squad went a little further west to Farmville and got a win of their own.

The Lady Monarchs picked up their second straight victory, putting on an offensive clinic en route to a 17-11 over in-state rival Longwood on Wednesday.

Junior Sydney Taylor led the way with a career-best five goals, while grad student Lilly Siskind had a season-best four goals in the win.

The Dueling Pianos is back at Apex Entertainment in Virginia Beach! This show will take place on Friday, March 1st and tickets are still available! Enjoy three hours of music, fun and food!

👏 THANK YOU, COACH

What a run.

This week marked the end of a legendary career as ODU men’s basketball coach Jeff Jones announced his retirement on Monday afternoon.

He finished his 32-year head coaching career with 560 wins, eight NCAA Tournament appearances, including reaching the Elite Eight, a dozen 20-win seasons, and an NIT Championship.
