It was a call that he’ll never forget.
Monday was a special day for ODU standout John Holobetz as he received a call that he always dreamed about, being selected in the fifth round of the 2024 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Pottsville, Pennsylvania native was taken with the 156th overall pick of the draft.
Holobetz made four starts in 15 appearances for the Monarchs during the 2024 season. He recorded 52 strikeouts through 62.2 innings pitched and held opposing batters to a .238 average against him.He finished the regular season ranked fourth in the Sun Belt with a 1.20 WHIP and was seventh in the league with 8.01 hits allowed per nine innings.

For four years, Ray Lawry left opposing defensive coordinators
with lots of sleepless nights as the former Monarch lit up the gridiron
during his time at ODU.
As a Monarch, Lawry rushed for over 4,000 yards (4,080 to be exact), averaged 6.2 yards per carry, posted 21 100-yd games and scored
45 rushing TDs, all of which are program records.
