COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: TOMORROW!

That’s right folks, you’ve made it. ODU football returns in just over 24 hours!

For the first time since 2013, the Monarchs will take on a SEC opponent
with a trip to South Carolina on the docket against former
Virginia Tech assistant Shane Beamer.

ODU is looking for a third bowl appearance in the past four years this fall after dramatically earning a trip last season with a last second win in the regular season finale over Georgia Southern.

Last year, the Monarchs played a Division I record 11 one-score games
with six of those contests coming down to the final play.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Path To The Pros. As the Monarchs prepare for their season opener tomorrow, some former family members are getting ready for season openers of their own.

This week, eight former ODU standouts secured their spots on 53-man NFL rosters.

Quarterback Taylor Heinicke (Chargers - traded by Atlanta last night), long snapper Rick Lovato (Eagles), wide receiver Zach Pascal (Cardinals), linebacker Oshane Ximines (Patriots), tight end Stone Smartt (Chargers), cornerback Tre Hawkins (Giants), offensive lineman Nick Saldiveri (Saints) and running back Blake Watson (Broncos) made their respective rosters.

🔼 Filling The Calendar. Pull out the iPhones. It’s time to fill up the calendar.

This week, ODU women’s basketball Head Coach DeLisha Milton-Jones announced the team’s non-conference schedule for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

The non-conference schedule includes two programs that played in the NCAA Tournament as well as two programs that played in the inaugural Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament.

Additionally, ODU will play an exhibition game against Christopher Newport, which captured its fifth straight conference championship and reached the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament last season.

🔼 Show Stopper. Just two weeks in to the 2024 season, senior keeper Emily Bredek is already bringing home accolades.

The senior from Huntington Beach, Calif. was named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week.

Bredek had a big week in the nets for the Monarchs as she helped record consecutive clean sheets for ODU (3-1) as they won a pair of matches.

For the season, Bredek has made 14 saves with a save percentage of .824 and sporting a goals against average of 0.78.

🔼 Helping Hands. Welp, that didn’t last long.

A familiar face is back around the family as Jeff Jones has returned to ODU athletics as a mentor for the University’s 18 head coaches and the dozens of Monarch assistant coaches.

Dr. Wood Selig, ODU’s director of athletics, said Jones will fill a role that is unusual in college athletics – providing ODU’s coaches, especially it’s younger coaches, with guidance to help them cope with the challenges of the modern world of college sports.

🦁 A NIGHT FOR LEGENDS

It’s a night made for legends.

September 6, 2024, the annual induction ceremony for the ODU Athletics Hall of Fame open to the public.

This year’s class includes five new members, Trey Freeman (Men’s Basketball), Christy Longacre (Field Hockey), Jonathan Plisco (Football), Evan Newton (Men’s Soccer) and Marty Bradley (Athletic Training).
