🦁 HALL OF A WEEKEND

What makes ODU so special?

The majority of the time, the answer to that question is “the people”.

This past weekend, five of those special people were enshrined into the ODU Athletics Hall of Fame.

Lisa Bernardini DeJohn (Women's Lacrosse/Women's Soccer), Ronnie Cameron (Football), Samantha Morrell (Women's Golf), Eric Onesi (Men's Golf) and Katie Watson (Women's Soccer) were all inducting into the ODU history this past weekend.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Whatever It Takes. While Saturday’s performance isn’t one that the ODU coaches and student-athletes are happy with, it goes into the same W column to make the Monarchs 2-2 on the season.

Both defenses took center stage as neither team’s offense could get going in the first half, locking into a 0-0 halftime. With ODU hanging onto a 10-9 lead with under 30 seconds to play, last week’s defensive star, LaMareon James came through yet again, with an INT on a two-point conversion to seal the victory.

All-American Jason Henderson led the way with 17 tackles and moved into a tie for third-place all-time with 323 career tackles. He also had three TFLs and 1.5 sacks in the contest. Shawn Asbury (15) and Terry Jones (10) also had double-digit tackles on the day.

Sophomore Dominic Dutton got his second TD of the season, while Ethan Sanchez drilled a field-goal with just over six minutes left which, proved to be the difference.

🔼 Doublin’ Down. It was coming. We all knew it was coming.

After three one-goal losses to top-10 teams, we knew it was only a matter of time for the ODU field hockey team to get things going in their direction. That time was now.

On Friday, the Monarchs battled to a 1-0 win over 19th-ranked Temple. On Sunday, they doubled down with a second straight shutout victory, this time a dominant 4-0 victory over local rival William & Mary.

ODU’s defense was stifling, limiting its opposition to a combined five shots in the two games, while a balanced offensive attack was on display with four different players scoring the five goals on the weekend.

Sophomore Sanci Molkenboer scored a goal in each contest to lead the way for the Blue & Gray.

🔼 Taming the Cats. The ODU men’s soccer team has been playing for over a month this fall and after Sunday night, they find themselves still without a loss.

The Monarchs are now 3-0-5 this fall and have allowed just eight goals total.

🔼 Georgia On Their Mind. It’s all about how you respond when you get knocked down. That’s what we’re told throughout our childhood.

Veteran Megan Watts came up with a huge goal, gathering a ricochet and firing it home in the 66th minute to give ODU a 2-1 lead, which the defense held onto for the final 35 minutes.

For just the second time in the past 15 seasons, the Monarchs have 7+ wins in the first 10 games of the season (7-1-2).

🤝 HELPING HANDS

“Be the change you want to see in the world”

So incredibly grateful for our student-athletes to be able to be a part of the Monarchs Give Back campaign that was hugely successful yet again this year and impacted so many in our community!

🤔 MONARCH TRIVIA

Three’s Company. Jason Henderson is well on his well to yet another 100+ tackle season with 59 through the first four games of the 2023 season.

His 17 tackle performance this past weekend moved him into a tie for third all-time with 323 career tackles.

Who is Henderson now tied with after his performance on Saturday?
