🔼 Shining Bright Like A Diamond. It’s almost that time.

NFL training camps are wrapping up and final decisions on 53-man rosters are being made around the league.

For a few of our former Monarchs, they are shining bright in the NFL season with Zach Kuntz having a catch in each of the Jets three preseason games and six overall, and Tre Hawkins III continuing to draw praise from onlookers.

🔼 What’s In A Number. Coming to a court near you…

The 2023-24 ODU men’s basketball roster will be filled with new faces and now we’ll know what number they’ll all be wearing this year.

🔼 A Fine Addition. People always talk about how catchers can be coaches on the baseball field.

Well, that’s exactly what ODU baseball is getting with the addition to Ryan Fineman to the coaching staff as an assistant coach.

"We are so happy to add Ryan to our staff. He came highly recommended from many trusted baseball people and has a nice background with his playing and coaching experiences,” head coach Chris Finwood said.

Fineman was most recently at Alabama, having joined the Crimson Tide's staff last summer as their Director of Player Personnel. Prior to his time in Tuscaloosa, he was a volunteer assistant coach at New Orleans and an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Chipola Junior College.

As a player, he was a four-year starting catcher at Indiana from 2016-2019, helping the Hoosiers capture a Big Ten regular-season title in 2019 and make three appearances in the NCAA Regionals. He signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Tampa Bay Rays and played one season with their Gulf Coast rookie team in 2019.

We are just 10 days away from kickoff folks!

Today, we honor our own #10, rising sophomore Marquez Bell, a versatile threat who came on strong at the end of the 2022 season.

Bell, who battled injuries early in his career, saw action in seven games last year, including one start against JMU. He caught three passes for 27 yards in his debut season for the Monarchs.

The Lake City, Fla. native started his collegiate career at Cincinnati playing three games for the Bearcats on special teams before heading to Norfolk.

He is the record holder at his high school, Columbia High in Gainesville, with 148 catches, 2,968 yards and 33 TDs.

🔼 Fresh New Digs. After a thrilling 2-0 season opening home win on Sunday, the ODU women’s soccer team returned to their fresh, new women’s locker room unveiled this fall.

Coach Hind helped generate over $100,000 from supporters to turn the locker room into something that the girls can be filled with Monarch Pride.

Max with Minium takes a deeper look into what the new digs means to the Monarchs themselves, and the program as a whole.

🤔 MONARCH TRIVIA

The ODU women’s soccer team is off to a hot start, winning its first two games of the season for the first time since 2019.

Leading the way for the Monarchs is captain Ece Turkoglu, who have scored in both wins over Mason and Campbell.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: Amanda Nhek.

In 2019, then junior Amanda Nhek found the net in ODU’s two opening games at Towson (4-1 win) and against Mason (3-1 win).

Nhek would actually score in ODU’s first SEVEN games that year, a streak in which the Monarchs went unbeaten (6-0-1) to start the year.

🦁 Have a great Wednesday, y’all!
