🏈 HOMECOMING WEEK

🔼 Home Sweet Home. Old friends, new friends, all sporting the same Blue and Gray!

There’s nothing like homecoming week on college campuses. The gatherings, the stories, the memories made.

ODU is back at Ballard for the third straight Saturday and will be the last time at home until Oct. 21st. Don’t miss out and join the party this weekend in Norfolk!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Two-For-One Special. Peanut Butter and Jelly. Pizza and Wings. Tom and Jerry. Classic combinations that always deliver.

A junior right side hitter from Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania, Conway was named to the Mountaineer Invitational All-Tournament Team after leading the Monarchs with 44 kills (4.00/set) and hitting .371. She also racked up a team-high 50.5 points (4.49/set) to help ODU secure sweeps of West Virginia and Robert Morris last Thursday.

Burgess, a sophomore middle blocker out of Raleigh, North Carolina, led the league with 22 blocks (2.00/set) this past week. She tied her career high of nine blocks in the win over the Mountaineers, then followed that up with a six-block outing against the Colonials and another seven versus the Bison. Thanks to her effort at the net, ODU led the Sun Belt last week with 3.27 blocks per set.

This marks the third career weekly honor for Conway as she was a two-time CUSA Freshman of the Week in 2021. This is the first career weekly honor for Burgess.

🔼 Give Us Another One. Make it ✌️ straight for the Blue & White.

For the second straight week, ODU has taken home the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week honor. Last week, Jason Henderson was recognized, this week, it was kinda the most obvious choice ever… LaMareon James.

James scored a pair of defensive touchdowns in Old Dominion's contest against Wake Forest on Saturday, scoring on an 80-yard fumble return and 66-yard interception return. He is the seventh player in FBS history to score on a fumble and interception return in the same game.

James is tied for the active career lead in non-offensive touchdowns with four. He is tied with Phillip Brooks of Kansas State and Teja Young of Ole Miss.

🔼 Flames Extinguished. No better time to head into conference play than when you’re on a hot streak.

ODU’s volleyball squad will do just that this weekend after coming away with a thrilling five-set win, 3-2, over in-state rival Liberty on Tuesday night in Norfolk. The Monarchs have now won four of their past five matches heading into the conference opening weekend at Marshall.

Senior Teresa Atilano was phenomenal, turning in a 43-assist, 10-dig double-double, along with five blocks, four aces and two kills for performance to remember leading the Monarchs to victory. Myah Conway, once again, led the squad with 16 kills, while classmate Alice Munari added 11 to the offensive attack.

🔼 It’s Been A While. The last time that ODU started a season with an unbeaten streak of 7+ games, freshman William Arnesen wasn’t born yet.

On Tuesday night, Arnesen brought back the good ole days as his goal in the final 10 minutes proved to be the equalizer as the Monarchs drew a 1-1 tie with visiting VCU on a perfect night on the pitch.

The tie pushes ODU’s streak to seven games at 2-0-5 to start the 2023 season, making it the first time since 2003. That season, the Monarchs went 14-0-1 to start the campaign.

👕 BLUE OUT TO BEAT PROSTATE CANCER

The SURF Foundation reminds you that early detection saves lives. One in eight American men will get some form of prostate cancer, and the earlier it's identified, the better the rates of survival.

Prostate Cancer is more common than you might think. The average age of diagnosis is 66. If you’re 45 years of age as an African American male, or 50 for other groups, you need to be screened for prostate cancer. Early detection can save lives. Talk to your provider this month to see if screening is right for you. Sentara.
