📈 STOCK UP

🔼 We. Are. Off. Crazy to think that hoops season will be here before we know it, but the seats at Chartway Arena will be filling up again in just over four months from now.

To get us all prepared for the upcoming year, we’ll be giving you an inside, behind-the-scenes look at how our Monarchs are preparing for the upcoming season.

Lots of new faces, lots of hard work, and plenty of personalities. You don’t want to miss this new feature.

🔼 Mind If We Join Ya? The summer months typically bring more golfers to our area and that’s no different for the ODU women’s golf program who added two new faces to its incoming class.

Joining the Monarchs next year will be Svarin Yuenyong and Carley Rudolf to the group of new faces that now total five with Puneet Bajwa, Faith Garcia and Sarah Mardani being announced earlier this year.

Svarin Yuenyong played the last four years at Elon University, averaging a 77.14 with a +5.30 score versus par through 25 tournaments and 73 rounds. A team captain for the Phoenix, she competed in nine tournaments in 2022-23 and owned an average score of 75.31 with a +3.54 score versus par.

Carley Rudolf, a Virginia Beach native, graduated from First Colonial High School. As a freshman in 2015, she won the Virginia High School League Girls State Championship with a two-day total of 144. She then carded a one-under 143 to earn Co-Medalist Honors at the 2017 VHSL State Championship. Entering her junior year at ODU, she is working towards a communications degree.

🔼 Monarch Matchups. A brand new wrinkle is in this year’s hoops schedule for both Monarch squads with the first year of the MAC-SBC Basketball challenge.

An early November game will be the first of two contests for both the men’s and women’s teams. The second game of the challenge will happen in the middle of February. Both matchups will be determine by NET rankings, with an emphasis on pitting similar opponents against each other.

Last week, both ODU squads received their early season matchups as the men will travel to Ball State on Saturday, Nov. 11, while the women will host Buffalo on that same day at Chartway Arena.

The second MAC-SBC Challenge contest for each team will take place on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024 and announced in January. Old Dominion will host a MAC school that day.

Each MAC and Sun Belt team included in the MAC-SBC Challenge, currently scheduled to take place during the 2023-24 and 2024-25 campaigns, is guaranteed one home and one away game each season.

All MAC-SBC challenge games will be carried on an ESPN platform.

🔼 Lifting With Purpose. For the second straight summer, ODU’s football squad partnered with Uplifting Athletes for their “Lift for Life” competition.

This past weekend, the boys jumped in the weight room and raised over $1,000 for those battling rare diseases. The competition pairs the offense against the defense in who can raise more pledge money per rep.

There’s still time to join in!

🏈 COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: 68 DAYS

68 NFL Tackles. We all remember Oshane Ximines terrorizing ODU’s opponents all over the field.

In April of 2019, that play earned him a third round selection by the New York Giants, where he has since played in 45 games over the course of four seasons racking up 68 total tackles.

This past year was his best since his first year in the league, playing in 15 games and starting four for the Big Blue. He picked up two tackles and had eight QB hurries last year.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: The Indiana Pacers.

That’s right, Coach Jones was taken in the same draft as James Worthy and Dominique Wilkins.

He was a fourth round selection and the 77th overall pick that year.

Let’s have a great start to the week!
