Monarch Brew 5/17: Just One More...

Monarchs Magic Number Down To One

TGIF ODU Fam. Now, it’s quite simple.

We didn’t even need to be a math major to figure this out. All we need is one more to clinch a berth.

We’ll recap a big night in Atlanta for the Monarch and more in today’s Brew! Check it out below!

✍️ MAX WITH MINIUM: A MUST READ

Every time we watch an ODU program, we’re rooting for the Monarchs. Whether it’s on the field, diamond, or even the water.

But sometimes, what we don’t know is that those student-athletes are battling much more than just the opposition.

This week’s Max with Minium is a story that is a must read about a story of perseverance, toughness, togetherness and so much more.

🔼 Just One More…. A huge blast and clutch pitching brought the ODU baseball team within one win of clinching a spot in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

With his team down 3-2 in the sixth, Maverick Stallings launched his ninth HR of the season over the left field wall to plate three runs and give the Monarchs a lead for good en route to a crucial 6-4 road win over Georgia State on Thursday night.

A quarter of ODU hurlers provided the pitching, including a clutch effort from Vincent Bashara, as he tossed three perfect innings to stifle the Panthers and pick up the save.

The victory takes ODU’s magic number to one as a win by the Monarchs in one of the two final games of the regular season OR a loss by Texas State clinches a spot in the upcoming conference tournament.

🔼 Head Of The Class. The 2023 ODU field hockey program weren’t just champions on the field, they dominated the classroom as well.

It was the best performance academically in program history.

“This is the best-ever academic performance for an ODU field hockey team,” ODU Head Coach Andrew Griffiths said. “At the same time it was a groundbreaking year on the field, winning the Big East Championship Tournament for the first time. I’m really proud of the hard work this team has put in together to achieve what they have.”

🔼 Welcome To The Fam. Coming off three straight conference titles, it appears the Lady Monarchs are reloading, not rebuilding.

This week, ODU officially welcomed Laura Klebek, a midfield transfer from Jacksonville.

A defensive midfielder, Klebek played in 16 of the Dolphins’ 18 games in her first collegiate season. She made six starts down the stretch and comes to Norfolk with three years of eligibility remaining.

🤔 MONARCH TRIVIA

With his HR on Thursday, Maverick Stallings tied for the team lead with nine HRs this spring.

It’s been a team wide power supply this year with a slew of bomb blasters in the lineup. How many Monarchs have at least 5+ HRs this spring?
