🔼 Making Waves. Oh What a Knight for the ODU rowing squad.

This week, freshman Nicole Knight was named the American Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year.

This is the first postseason superlative award for an ODU rower in program history. At the end of the conference championship earlier this month, Knight was named Second Team All-American Athletic Conference and earned the team’s Freshman award.

A native of Yorktown, Virginia, Knight walked onto the team this year with no prior experience rowing.

Overcoming a hearing impairment to make the top varsity eight boat, Knight served as an inspiration to teammates and worked with the second V8 boat the only week she didn’t travel in the spring. She also found time to run a half-marathon this spring and finished in the top ten of her age group.

🔼 Save The Date(s). Nope, you don’t have any weddings to attend. You don’t even have to buy any gifts.

Just throw on the ODU gear and book your fall dates with the reigning BIG EAST field hockey champs.

The Lady Monarchs announced their loaded schedule for the fall, which kicks off on August 30th with a road showdown at in-state rival, Richmond.

Last season, ODU went 14-6 and captured the first BIG EAST Championship in program history. ODU won 12-straight games at one point during the year, including a 3-1 win over Liberty in the BIG EAST Tournament final.

🔼 Welcome Aboard. A new face is joining the reigning conference champs next fall.

Earlier this week, women’s soccer coach Angie Hind announced the hiring of Zach Hanson to join the 2024 coaching staff as assistant coach. Hanson has previously coached at Eastern Kentucky and VMI and most recently served as the Girls Academy Director at Skyline Elite SC in Charlottesville, Virginia.
