🏀 ONE OF US

“One of us.”

That’s been used several hundred times over the past few days to describe the newest head coach of ODU men’s basketball, Mike Jones.

It marks the second time in program history that ODU has hired an alumnus to coach its men's basketball team as Jones becomes the 14th head coach in program history.

An Old Dominion alumnus, Jones played for the Monarchs from 1991-95 and was a part of two tournament championship teams and one of the greatest wins in ODU history, He returns to ODU after spending this season as an assistant coach at Maryland.

He is the second ODU alumnus to be head coach of his alma mater, joining Oliver Purnell, who Jones played for his first three seasons at ODU. He also is the third African American head coach in program history, along with Purnell and the late Jeff Capel.
