🔼 Comeback Kids. It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.

That old adage couldn’t have been more true than it was on Wednesday night for the ODU women’s hoops squad, who’s comeback against App State secured its seventh win in the past eight games, defeating the Mountaineers, 78-71.

After App State jumped out to an early lead, senior Simone Cunningham led the Monarchs back with 16 hard-fought points, 13 rebounds and three steals. It was her third double-double of the season.

It was a balanced offensive attack for ODU with En’Dya Buford and Kelsey Thompson both scoring 13 points, Simaru Fields adding 12, Mariah Clayton with 11 and Brenda Fontana with eight points and eight rebounds.

🔼 Opening Act. Another run at a title starts today for the ODU tennis squads.

Both sets of Monarchs hit the courts at Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center with a tripleheader on tap in Norfolk.

The men take on Georgetown at 12 pm, followed by a 4 pm in-state showdown for the women’s squad against Richmond, capped off with a local battle for the men against Christopher Newport at 7 pm.

🔼 Making Waves. The year may be different, but the accolades continue to pour in for the ODU swimming program.

For the third time this year, the Monarchs brought home the Atlantic Swimmer of the Week honor, this time, it was junior Bryce Mortimer.

Mortimer earned a pair of victories to start 2025 for the Monarchs in last weekend’s quad meet against William & Mary, East Carolina and Central Connecticut State. He won the 200-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:05.65 and the 200-Yard Individual Medley in 1:52.29.

A native of Richmond, Virginia, Mortimer becomes the third Monarch to win swimmer of the week accolades this season. He joins Zachary Redding, who has won it three times and Kiersten Donnelly, who has earned the honor twice.
