🔼 Leading The Way. With just a few months left in her collegiate basketball career, ODU’s En’Dya Buford is making every second count.

Buford led the way for the women’s hoops perfect 2-0 week last week, which helped earn her Sun Belt Player of the Week accolades for the second time in her career.

The Memphis, Tenn., native scored a team high in both wins, 18 points against App State (65-54) and 21 against Marshall (84-82).

🔼 Two-For-One Special. As Sun Belt conference play approaches the midway point, the always competitive league standings are once again a logjam.

Tonight, both Monarchs have a challenge on tap with the men and women each taking on the conference’s top team in the standings.

The women head to Arkansas State (1 pm today), who is currently 7-1 in league action and 16-4 overall, while the men get set to host reigning conference champion Troy (7 pm tonight), who is currently 6-1 in conference play.

🔼 Nation’s Finest. Growing up with an older sister who is autistic, Sarah Damato was often disappointed at how her sibling, Lauren, was treated by others.

So, when she enrolled at Old Dominion University in the fall of 2007, Sarah decided to become a special education teacher, someone who teaches young people with emotional, mental or physical disabilities how to cope in the real world.

Now 15 years into her teaching career, the former ODU women’s lacrosse student-athlete has proven to be an outstanding teacher.

So good that on, Monday night, Sarah was honored as the National Teacher of the Year.

🔼 A New Era. For the first time since the 2013 season, the ODU women’s soccer program will have new leadership on the sideline.

After legendary coach Angie Hind resigned following this past fall, the Monarchs welcomed Will Roberts as the newest head coach of the program.

This week, ODU’s own Ted Alexander met up and talked with Roberts about his new role and his vision for the future.

🦁 MONARCH TRIVIA

Robert Davis Jr. enters tonight matchup with Troy sitting seventh all-time in career 3-pointers at ODU with 164. With 36 more, he would become the fifth Monarch all-time to reach 200 career 3-pointers.

Which former ODU standout is the program’s all-time leader in career 3-pointers?
