🔼 Court Is In Session. The spring season is underway for the ODU tennis programs and the Monarchs jumped into the 2026 slate in a big way.
Both the men’s and women’s squads swept the weekly Sun Belt conference accolades.
For the men, Adam Majchrzak collected two honors being named the Singles Player of the Week, as well as joining Thomas Nelson as part of the Doubles Team of the Week.
On the women’s side, Kira Matushkina took home the Player of the Week honor, while Marina Markina and Uladzislava Manzhos were recognized as the Doubles Team of the Week.
🔼 Schedule Shuffling. With an incoming storm scheduled to arrive in the area, the Monarchs are shuffling some schedules around.
With the change, Ronnie Valentine’s jersey retirement will now be held during ODU’s home game against Georgia State on Saturday, February 14. In addition, Alumni Day and senior recognition will also take place on this date.
The Old Dominion women’s tennis match against Mississippi State scheduled for this Saturday, Jan. 24, has been canceled due to impending winter storms on the Hampton Roads area.
🔼 On A Mission. Wednesday night, the ODU men’s hoops team went toe-to-toe with the Sun Belt’s best squad, pushing Troy to double OT at Chartway Arena.
A career-night from KC Shaw nearly delivered the Monarchs to a huge win over the Trojans.
Coach Jones delivered a powerful message to the fans postgame.
🦁 MONARCH TRIVIA
Next month, former ODU standout Ryan Yarbrough will hit the Spring Training fields in Tampa for his second consecutive season with the New York Yankees.
Yabrough is one of three former Monarchs to have started 75 or more games in MLB. Justin Verlander leads that category (555), but who is the other ODU alum in that group?
