🔼 Code Red. The heart and fight of the ODU men’s hoops team was on display in a gutsy road win over Arkansas State on Wednesday night.
Clutch free throws and a solid defensive effort helped the Monarchs hold off a late surge by the Red Wolves to secure the 75-71 victory. ODU forced Arkansas State in 15 turnovers on the night.
Jordan Battle led the way offensively, pouring in 20 points, including five 3-pointers and dishing out six assists. KC Shaw finished with 16 points and five assists, while Caelum Sawnton-Rodger added 13 points and nine rebounds.
The Monarchs now find themselves just two games out of a top-four seed in the Sun Belt standings.
🔼 Stackin’ Em Up. There’s no place like home for the ODU women’s hoops team, which got a career night from 6-foot-5 forward Riley Stack to roll past ULM, 85-62, Wednesday at Chartway Arena.
It was ODU’s 10th victory in 12 home games this season. The Monarchs are now 2.5 games back of a top four spot in the Sun Belt, which would guarantee the Monarchs a bye into the tournament quarterfinals.
Stack set career highs with 22 points, seven blocked shots, three steals and 10 field goals made. Her nine rebounds tied a career high, and she missed only one shot all night.
Simaru Fields and En’Dya Buford both added 15 points and Simone Cunningham had 12 for the Monarchs, who pounded the ball inside and scored 50 points in the paint.
🔼 Clean Sweepin’. Two weeks into the spring season and the ODU men’s tennis team is 2-for-2 in clean sweeping the Sun Belt weekly accolades.
This week, Piet Steveker and Zech Hamrouni were named Sun Belt Doubles Team of the Week, while Jean-Karim Olivier de Sardan was awarded Sun Belt Singles Player of the Week.
🔼 Bryce Is Nice. ODU senior swimming standout Bryce Mortimer is leaving it all in the pool for the Monarchs.
In his final season in Norfolk, Mortimer earned Atlantic Sun Swimmer of the Week accolades after earning three wins in ODU’s triumph over American last weekend.
🔼 No Place Like Home. A busy weekend is on tap at Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center with three home matches on the docket for the ODU Tennis programs.
On Friday, the men’s team hosts two in-state foes with Richmond rolling into town at 1 pm, followed by Norfolk State for a 6 pm evening match.
Sunday brings BIG 10 foe Penn State to Norfolk for an 11 am meeting with the Lady Monarchs.
