🔼 Blue October. The boys are back at it.

Former ODU stars Vinnie Pasquantino and Matt Quatraro are making a few of the local baseball fans a little upset as the former Monarchs helped lead the Royals to a thrilling 1-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles in Game 1 of the American League Wild Card round on Tuesday.

In the past 35 years of Royals baseball, Kansas City is only making its third playoff appearance, just two years after Quatraro took over the helm.

After missing the past two months with an injury, Pasquantino returned to the lineup to DH for the Royals. Game 2 in Baltimore is set for 4:30 pm this afternoon.

🔼 An ‘A’ For Ashlynn. When you help hold the league’s most potent offense to just four shots, you’re bound to turn some heads.

That’s what sophomore defender Ashlynn Kulha and the ODU Monarchs did last week and for her efforts, Kulha was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

She is the second Monarch to win Defensive Player of the Week honors from the league this year as Emily Bredek won it on August 27.

🔼 On The Road Again. Coming off a thrilling road victory over Bowling Green, the ODU Monarchs continued its tough road stretch with its second of three straight games away from home.

This weekend, ODU heads south to take on Coastal Carolina in a critical Sun Belt conference showdown. Kickoff in Conway is set for 7 pm.

🔼 Link It Up. It’s never a bad day when you’re on the golf course, but it’s definitely better when there’s no weather involved.

For the ODU men’s golf team, the weather wreaked havoc on their stay at the Ironwood Collegiate Classic, shortening the event to just 36 holes, earning the Monarchs a tie for eighth overall.

Philip Minnehan led the Monarchs with a five-under par 139 to tie for 14th. The senior from Rochester, New York entered the day in fourth place after converting six birdie putts for a round of 67 on Monday. He then shot an even 72 on Tuesday.

🦁 MONARCH TRIVIA

In his regular season finale for the Houston Astros, former ODU great Justin Verlander put together one of his best performances of the 2024 season to earn his 262nd victory in his illustrious MLB career.

Where does that win total rank all-time?
