🔼 Feelin’ 100. Now that’s how you record victory number 100.
DeLisha Milton-Jones’ 100th victory as the Old Dominion women’s head basketball coach was among the most lopsided in ODU’s history.
Simaru Fields led a balanced ODU attack with 14 points, Simone Cunningham added 11 points, and Kelsey Thompson scored 10 as the Monarchs rolled past Elizabeth City State University, 106-32, Friday night at Chartway Arena.
The 74-point margin was ODU’s largest ever in Chartway Arena, which opened in 2002, and the Monarchs’ largest victory margin since a 116-26 triumph over Indiana State in 1996-97, when the Monarchs finished second in the NCAA Tournament.
It was also the largest margin of victory in Milton-Jones’ coaching career. It was the first time ODU scored 100 or more points since 2004, when the Monarchs defeated Hofstra, 105-62.
🔼 To The Wire. The ODU men’s soccer team gave it all they had and took #16 West Virginia to the wire in the first round of the Sun Belt Tournament.
But the Mountaineers would move on after the two teams played to a 2-2 tie and went on to penalty kicks, which WVU would pull out a 5-4 victory.
“The performance against a top side was fantastic. We fought our way back from behind and that showed the type of character this group has,” said ODU head coach Tennant McVea. “Penalties are never an easy way to exit at this time of the year but that’s all part of the game.”
🔼 Power Pair. The season may be over for the ODU women’s soccer program, but the accolades are still rolling in.
Mullen provided assists in the two games that the Monarchs played. She assisted Thrysoe against Georgia State and was a part of the action in both goals ODU scored in the Sun Belt Semifinal.
Thrysoe scored against the Panthers in the SBC Quarterfinal and took six shots throughout the tournament.
🔼 Sails Up. Freshman Esther Ireland led ODU Sailing this past weekend, finishing sixth at the College SingleHanded National Championships after the two-day event that was held at ODU on the base of the Elizabeth River.
Ireland began the day in 12th but four top-10 finishes highlighted by a third-place finish vaulted her into sixth place.
Arabella Duer finished 10th after a pair of seventh place finishes highlighted her day. Gianna Dewey began the day in 16th but after a pair of third place finishes pushed up to place 12th for the championship.
