ODU Hoops Sweep Friday Doubleheader at Chartway
Good Morning Monarchs. Many of us are spending our weekends cleaning up leaves all over our yards.
On Friday, the ODU hoops squads got together and did some cleaning of their own at Chartway, sweeping a doubleheader to kick off the weekend in Norfolk.
We’ll recap that and much more in today’s Brew! Check it out below!

🔼 Veni, Vidi, Vici. Ok, maybe Devin Ceaser didn’t proclaim that on Friday night at Chartway, but he could have.
The veteran guard poured in 23 points to help the ODU men’s basketball pick up a 73-71 home victory over UMES. Its the first win in the coaching tenure of alum Mike Jones.
Sean Durugordon added 15 points and six rebounds, while Robert Davis Jr. chipped in 10 points and four assists.
🔼 Deep and Wide. Over the past two seasons, there are very few programs in the country that carry the depth that the ODU women’s hoops program have in the stable.
Yet again, the depth of the ODU women’s basketball team was on display at Chartway Arena on Friday with seven players scoring 7+ points to help the Lady Monarchs roll to a third straight win, 77-50 over visiting Bowie State.
ODU had four players in double figures, led by En’Dya Buford (12), Mariah Clayton (11) and Simone Cunningham and Mikayla Brown (10 apiece).
🔼 Texas Tango. For the first-time ever, the NCAA is playing their singles and doubles championships in the fall season, rather than the usual spring.
That action kicks off tomorrow on the campus of Baylor University and a pair of Monarchs will be right in the middle of it all.
On the women’s side, Sofia Johnson is seeded eighth nationally and will take on Penn’s Esha Velaga, while Connor Van Schalkwyak battles Tennesse’s Shunsuke Mitsui, who is ranked nationally in the top-16.
🔼 A Year To Remember. On Friday, the ODU volleyball team not only celebrated their seniors, but capped off a historic year for the young program.
The Monarchs wrapped up the 2024 slate, finishing with a single-season record for wins with 16.
