🔼 Grand Opening. Scoring 19 of his career-high 25 points in the second half, Zacch Wiggins led the ODU men’s basketball team to a 61-49 victory over Western Michigan in the season-opener at Chartway Arena on Monday night.
It was a new career-best for Wiggins, who is in his second season as a Monarch. His previous career best was an 18-point performance versus Morgan State on Nov. 21 last year. The Greensboro, North Carolina native shot 9-of-15 from the floor and also pulled down two rebounds with two steals in the contest.
Jared Turner also had a solid outing for the Monarchs, contributing eight points and a team-high eight rebounds off the bench with ODU dominating Western Michigan in the paint, 36-16.
The Monarchs are right back in action tonight with a 7 p.m. tip-off against Regent at Chartway Arena.

🔼 Won-And-0. Facing an opponent it’s never played before and 4,000 screaming elementary school kids against them, the ODU women’s basketball team gutted out a hard-fought 62-58 road victory over Central Michigan on Monday afternoon in the first round of this year’s SBC-MAC Challenge.
Old Dominion had 52 of its 62 points came from four players. Mia Davis and Trinity Vance tied for a team high 15 points followed by Shadaisa Brackens' 12 and Dalanna Carter's 10 points on Monday afternoon.
It marked the 150th collegiate win of head coach DeLisha Milton-Jones’ career.
The Monarchs are back in action tomorrow night at Chartway Arena with Virginia State rolling into town for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off.
🔼 Super Serena. For the fifth time this season, ODU standout defender Serena Langendoen has earned a BIG EAST Player of the Week honor, securing Defensive Player of the Week accolades for her performance in the 3-2 victory over Georgetown this past weekend.
Langendoen leads the BIG EAST with 17 goals, 40 points, 86 shots, 45 shots on goal and six game-winning goals. She also ranks seventh nationally in goals per game and points per game.
ODU will now face No. 2 seed Liberty on Friday, Nov. 6 at 4 p.m. in the BIG EAST Semifinals in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
🔼 Ticket Punched. ODU sailing’s Esther Ireland earned an at-large bid to the Women’s Singlehanded National Championships set for November 7-8, 2026. The 2026 Championship will be hosted by Fordham in Rye, New York.
It is the second time in her career that the second year skipper/crew has earned a bid to the national championships.
This season she has taken part in six competitions. Some notable results Ireland earned this season include a third place finish at the Navy Women’s Regatta on September 12.
