🔼 Ticket Punched. What a night at the ODU Soccer Complex!
With a spot on the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on the line, the Monarchs used all heart and hustle to pull off a 1-0 upset over JMU in the TowneBank Royal Rivalry matchup.
In the 63rd minute, Micah Wayland scooped up the ball and fired a hurry-up inbounds pass toward a streaking Timothy Ennin.
Ennin, the seventh-year senior from Hartford, Connecticut, broke away from two defenders, cradled the ball with his left leg and then used his right to softly kick it in over the JMU goalie and into the goal for the game’s only score.
Winners of three of their final four games, ODU now heads to the Sun Belt Tournament to face second-seeded Marshall on Sunday.
🔼 Stayin’ Alive. The quest for four straight conference titles is still alive for the ODU women’s soccer program.
And tonight, that quest faces it’s biggest test yet, facing top-seeded JMU, the team that the Monarchs have played in the championship match in each of the past two seasons.
On Monday, ODU got a goal from Yuliia Khrystiuk in the 68th minute to tie things up at 1-1 and veteran keeper Emily Bredek stood strong in goal, saving two shots to secure a 3-1 win in penalty kicks to advance to the Sun Belt semifinals.
🔼 Opening Acts. Two tight games, two battles and the ODU hoops season is off and running.
ODU men’s hoops squad rallied late and battled to the very end, but fell at home against Buffalo, 83-82. Robert Davis Jr., the transfer from UMass, scored 25 points, making 8-of-13 three-point shots, with all eight coming in the second half. Stephaun Walker, the transfer from Robert Morris, added 14 points and 13 rebounds.
On the women’s side, the Lady Monarchs got off to a slow start and couldn’t come all the way back, falling on the road to Ball State, 60-46, in the season opener on Monday.
🎙 INSIDE THE LIONS’ DEN
In episode 5️⃣ of Voice From the Lions’ Den, host Ryan Parncutt is joined by ODU Rowers Elizabeth "Ellie" Bosco and Savannah Hartlove.
