🔼 Comeback Kids. For five years, the Monarchs have been trying to hunt down JMU on the volleyball court.
On Thursday, they did so in historic fashion.
The Dukes grabbed the first two sets of the match, but after a quick reset, ODU started their rally, taking the final three sets to earn the 3-2 victory, the first-ever over JMU in program history.
Myah Conway, Bryanna Jones and Ashlynn Belcher all led the way with career-best nights for the Monarchs.
🔼 What A Run. All good things must come to an end eventually.
For the ODU women’s soccer team, their hunt for four straight conference championships came to a close on Thursday, falling 1-0 to JMU in the Sun Belt semifinals in Foley, Ala.
After weather moved the match back a day, the match was then moved locations due to field conditions, but the Dukes got a first half goal and held on to advance to the championship match.
🔼 Awards Aplenty. Last week, millions of kids collected candy that will last them until next year.
This week, the Monarchs collected their own treats with a haul of various awards across four different ODU programs.
It started with four members of the field hockey squad earning BIG EAST All-Conference accolades. Frederique Zandbergen and Tess Jedeloo were named to the First Team All-BIG EAST, while Serena Langendoen and Suus Broers earned spots on the Second Team All-BIG EAST.
Sophomore linebacker Koa Naotala of the ODU football squad was then named a nominee for the Burlsworth Trophy, given each year to the top player in the country that began his career as a walk-on.
Wrapping up the honors were classmate Zach Redding of the ODU swim team picked up his second Atlantic Sun Swimmer of the Week accolade, while junior keeper Michael Statham was named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week.
