🔼 Bye, Bye Bison. This time of year, it’s not uncommon for schools to take a few field trips before the upcoming holiday break.

On Tuesday, the ODU women’s basketball team took a field trip to the nation’s capital and brought back a W.

A double-double from En’Dya Buford (16 pts, 10 rebounds) led the way as the Lady Monarchs rolled to a 75-58 victory over Howard. Simaru Fields posted her second straight double-digit performance with 13 points, while Kelsey Thompson finished with 12 points, five rebounds and two steals to round out the Monarchs in double-figures.

🔼 Among The Elite. Welp, one thing is for sure, ODU field hockey’s Frederique Zandbergen didn’t skip the lesson on sharing as a youngin’.

After leading the Monarchs in assists this fall with 17, the ODU standout earned high praise this week, earning a spot on the NFHCA Division I All-American First Team.

A native of Tilburg in the Netherlands, Zandbergen ranked first in the nation in assists per game (0.94) this season. She was also named to the First Team All-BIG EAST this season and first-team all-region accolades. Zandbergen scored four goals to go along with her 17 assists for 21 points.

🔼 Here To Stay. The architect of the first five seasons of ODU volleyball is here to stay.

This week, Director of Athletics Dr. Wood Selig announced a contract extension for Volleyball Head Coach Fred Chao through the 2027 season.

Chao was hired as the program’s first head coach in January 2019 and recently completed his fifth season at ODU, guiding the Monarchs to a new single-season record for wins as they finished 16-11 overall.
