Monarchs Open Sun Belt Play With OT Thriller Over ULM
Good Morning Monarch Nation. The classic Christmas movie, Elf, states that “the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.”
Welp, Robert Davis Jr. and the ODU men’s hoops squad spread Christmas cheer in a different way…

🔼 Spreading Christmas Cheer. It’s not uncommon for many to work overtime this time of year.
The ODU men’s basketball team did as well this past weekend and it was well worth it as the Monarchs fought their way to a thrilling 80-75 overtime road win against ULM on Saturday.
Robert Davis Jr. was the star of the night, pouring in a career-high 32 points, thanks in large part to seven three-pointers. R.J. Blakney added a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Sean Durugordon had another double-digit outing with 15 points and five rebounds. Jaden Johnson set a new career-high as he dished out nine assists.
🔼 Happy HoliDUBs. The ODU women’s hoops squad is heading into the holidays with another W in their stocking.
It was the bench who supplied the spark for the Lady Monarchs on Sunday, getting 45 points from the reserves en route to a 68-58 victory over Virginia State, who stepped in to fill in for Delaware, who had to postpone due to a lack of available players.
Mariah Clayton led ODU with 15 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the field. Kelsey Thompson contributed 10 points with nine rebounds, Hama’ya Fielder shot 3-for-5 from the perimeter for a season-high nine points, and Simone Cunningham finished with eight points and nine boards.
🔼 Academic Aces. This past fall was a historic one for the young ODU volleyball program, setting a program record for wins in a single-season.
That success was not limited to the court as demonstrated by four Monarchs earning Academic All-District accolades by the CSC.
Representing the Monarchs this year are Ashlynn Belcher, Elisa Maggi, Myah Conway and Kate Kilpatrick.
Eligibility requirements for volleyball include earning at least a 3.5 grade point average, compete in 90 percent of their team's matches or start in at least 66% of the team’s matches. Liberos, although not counted in stats as a starter, were counted as such for nominating purposes. Nominees must have also completed one full calendar year at their institution and be at least a sophomore both academically and athletically.
