🔼 She Is A Real (All) American. While there’s not exactly entrance music in soccer, we now know what Ashlyn Kulha’s would be if there was.
Over the weekend, the sophomore standout earned her first career All-American honor as the defensive star was named to the United Soccer Coaches Association Third-Team.
A native of Holly Springs, North Carolina, was named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year and earned first-team all-conference accolades. The leader of the ODU defense, she played every minute in all 20 of ODU’s games this season. Kulha scored one goal on the season and helped lead the defense to nine shutouts.
🔼 Called To The Hall. He’s spent decades writing about the stories and accomplishments of others. Now, it’s our turn to write about him.
Last week, one of our own received the prestigious Call To The Hall, as Harry Minium Jr., ODU’s Senior Executive Writer, was honored as part of the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025.
Located in Virginia Beach, the Hall of Fame has inducted 363 members since 1972. Minium will be the 20th with strong ties to ODU.
Minium, 71, will be part of an eight-person class to be added on April 25-26 at the Westin Hotel in Town Center. Minium will be added as a sports journalist.
🔼 Talkin’ Ball. Both ODU Hoops squad hit the court this weekend for tough tests.
On Saturday, the men’s team hosted a 7-2 George Washington and took the Revolutionaries to the wire, but dropped a tough 78-70 decision at Chartway Arena.
Devin Ceaser and Jaden Johnson led the way with 16 points apiece, while Stephaun Walker added 13 points and 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.
On the women’s side, the Lady Monarchs got off to a fast start against #24 NC State on Sunday, but cooled off quickly, falling on the road, 86-55. En’Dya Buford led the way with 16 points, while Simone Cunningham added eight points and seven rebounds.
Both teams now have a full week off to focus on final exams before picking up the action heading into the holiday season.
🦁 MONARCH TRIVIA
Yesterday, Rick Lovato played in his 135th NFL game, the most by any former Monarch.
He is one of two former ODU standouts to play in 100+ games in the NFL. Which other former Monarch is in that club?
