🔼 Saturday Night Special. On what was an emotional day for Old Dominion’s basketball program, the Monarchs honored their seniors and about 50 alumni, retired the jersey of all-time leading scorer Ronnie Valentine and then won a big game in convincing fashion.

KC Shaw scored 28 points and the Monarchs led nearly throughout as they drubbed Georgia State, 78-55, Saturday at Chartway Arena. Shaw wasn’t the only senior who made the most of his special day.

Caelum Swanton-Rodger, the 7-foot transfer from Maryland who has improved much in his two years at ODU, had 17 points, 10 rebounds, four blocked shots and three assists.

🔼 Opening Act. Playing at home for the first time since 2024, the ODU baseball team made sure the scoreboard still worked, putting up 35 runs in three games against Quinnipiac, taking two of three on opening weekend of the 2026 season.

The Monarchs pounded out 41 hits in the three games, including seven from Zach Leite and six from Maverick Stallings. The dynamic duo also drove in 15 RBIs combined on the weekend.

On the mound, newcomer Darin Kuskie was outstanding in his ODU, striking out nine and allowing just five hits in five innings to earn the win on Friday.

🔼 No Place Like Home. The ODU men’s tennis squad once again showed there’s no place like home as the Monarchs closed out their homestand with a weekend sweep to push their win streak to five straight.

ODU started the weekend with a dramatic 4-3 win over in-state rival, Virginia Tech, before closing it out with a clean sweep of Sun Belt foe, South Alabama.

The Monarchs are now 6-2 this spring.
