Monarch Brew 2/7: Sweet Revenge

Monarchs Exact Revenge On Texas State, Win For Third Time In Past Four Games

TGIF ODU Fam. You know what they say about revenge, right?

It’s best served cold, so there’s no better time to dish it out than the winter months, which is exactly what the ODU men’s hoops squad took care of on Wednesday night.

What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew? Check it out below!

🏈 SUPER SUNDAY SNAPPER

For the third time in his career, former ODU star Rick Lovato is preparing to take the field on Super Bowl Sunday.

Victorious in Super Bowl 52, Lovato and the Philadelphia Eagles returned to the big game in Super Bowl 57, but dropped a heartbreaker to Kansas City.

On Sunday in New Orleans, the former Monarch will look to become the first-ever ODU alum with two Super Bowl victories on his resume.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Sweet Revenge. While many of the faces may be different, the revenge tasted just as sweet for the ODU men’s basketball program.

A big night from Sean Durugordon and clutch plays down the stretch earned the Monarchs a hard-fought 75-64 victory over visiting Texas State to keep ODU right in the hunt in the Sun Belt standings just two games back of first place.

Durugordon scored 20 points, had 13 rebounds, and blocked a three-point shot with 48 seconds left that helped thwart a late Texas State rally.

Robert Davis Jr. finished with 18 points and point guard Jaden Johnson had 14 points and five rebounds. Caelum Swanton-Rodger, a 7-foot transfer from Maryland, had one of his best efforts of the season as he scored 10 points and had nine rebounds.

🔼 Bragging Rights. It’s always good to own some bragging rights against some local foes.

For the ODU women’s tennis team, that’s what they secured on Thursday night, rolling past visiting William & Mary, 6-1, for their second win of the spring season.

🔼 They’reee Backkkk. While it may only be February, another season of ODU lacrosse is upon us.

The Monarchs kick of their 2025 slate looking to bounce back from a tough spring last year when they welcome the Lancers of Longwood to LR Hill Sports Complex for a 5pm showdown.

Last season, ODU came away with an 11-7 victory in Farmville and is 10-4 all-time against Longwood.

🔼 Raging Waters. We are just ONE WEEK away from the return of ODU baseball and before first pitch, senior Luke Waters is already earning recognition.

The veteran outfield from Laurel, Delaware was named to the 2025 Preseason All-Sun Belt Team this week.

Last season, Waters earned a spot on the All-Sun Belt Second Team last season after leading the Monarchs with a .312 batting average, 68 hits, 113 total bases, and 21 multi-hit games.
