The ODU Basketball squads are headed into Championship Week and there’s no better place to get the inside scoop than at the weekly Keeping Up With the Joneses Coaches Show, which is back on the air TONIGHT!
Tonight’s show will be live at Recovery Sports Grill from 6-7pm and air on ESPN 94.1 from 7-8pm. With busy schedules changing things around, Men’s Basketball Analyst Dennis Wolff will join Matt Hatfield, along with Women’s Basketball standouts Riley Stack and Simone Cunningham.
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Finishing Strong. With the Sun Belt Tournament looming, the ODU hoops squad finished their regular season with momentum, both picking up road victories on Friday.
On the women’s side, En’Dya Buford (19) and Simaru Fields (16) combined for 35 points to lead the Lady Monarchs past App State, 75-65 in Boone.
For the men, it was Jordan Battle (20) and LJ Thomas (18) leading the offensive attack in a 81-73 win over Georgia State in Atlanta.
🔼 Tourney Time. Now that the regular season is wrapped up, it’s Tourney Time for the ODU Basketball squads. This week, the Monarchs head south to Pensacola to take on the Sun Belt Tournament gauntlet.
On the men’s side, ODU is the 11th seed and opens play tomorrow against 14th-seeded ULM. The winner moves on to take on 10th-seeded Georgia Southern on Wednesday. Tip time against ULM is set for 8:30 pm.
The women’s team earned a triple bye until Friday’s action, sitting as the sixth seed in the 14-team field. They will await their opponent for a 3pm tip on Friday afternoon.
🔼 The Showstopper. With the crowd filled with some furry friends on Bark In The Day, senior goalie Brynn Bowen gave them to bark about.
The Salem, Va., native posted a career-high 15 saves to lead ODU to its second straight win, a 10-8 defeat of Rider.
With her 15 saves, Bowen reached 200+ saves (204 to be exact) in her career with the Monarchs.
🔼 Picking Up A Pair. As the temperatures outside are warming up, so is the ODU men’s tennis team, who picked up a pair of wins over the weekend to improve to 10-4 on the spring season.
The Monarchs started things off with a 4-1 win over William & Mary and split a doubleheader on Sunday, dropping a tough 4-1 decision to #25 Cornell before sweeping past Morgan State.
ODU has now won nine of its past 11 matches dating back to late January.
