Monarchs Defend Their Turf, Pick Up Seven Home Wins

Good Morning ODU Fam. You know those signs that hang in homes across the country?

Yup — those signs.
For the Monarchs, that sign should’ve read “home is where the Ws are” this weekend.
What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew? Check it out below!

🔼 Man, It Feels Good To Be Home. While it wasn’t their home stadium, playing in the “757” was close enough for the ODU baseball team.
The Monarchs picked up their first Sun Belt series victory of the season, taking the first two games from Georgia State behind two solid pitching performances and 20 runs scored.
Kyle Edwards led the offensive attack notching hits in seven of his first eight at-bats of the weekend, including three extra base hits.

🔼 Movin’ On. The Lady Monarchs don’t want their season to end just yet.
After taking a tough loss in the Sun Belt Tournament, the ODU women’s hoops team was anxious to get back on the court and it showed as the Lady Monarchs rolled past visiting Navy in the first round of the WNIT, 63-42, at Chartway Arena on Saturday.
Senior En’Dya Buford led the way offensively with 18 points, while classmate Simone Cunningham added 11. Kelsey Thompson grabbed 12 rebounds and nine points, with Simaru Fields chipping in nine points and three steals.
But it was ODU’s defense that won this game, holding Navy to just 20.5-percent from the field.
ODU now advances to the second round of the WNIT and will play at Purdue Fort Wayne (25-8) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Mastodons, who had a school-record 17-game winning streak this season, lost to Green Bay in the Horizon League championship game.

🔼 The 4-for-4 Deal. No, no, we’re not talking about Wendy’s here, we’re talking about the ODU tennis squads.
Back in the Norfolk, the Monarchs rolled to four Sun Belt victories with each the men’s and women’s teams taking two matches apiece.
The two programs are a combined 8-0 in league play so far this spring.
