🔼 Reigning Supreme. As the weather continues to heat up, the ODU women’s tennis squad keeps getting hotter and hotter.
On Saturday, the Lady Monarchs reigned supreme in the Townebank Royal Rivalry, blowing past JMU, 4-0, to win for the 10th time in the past 11 matches and move to a perfect 7-0 in Sun Belt Conference play.

🔼 Southern Swing. While the ODU men’s tennis team was only able to get one of their two matches in, they made it count, winning for the fourth time in the past five matches and remaining perfect in Sun Belt action.
The Monarchs battled their way to a thrilling 4-3 victory over South Alabama on Friday afternoon, moving to 4-0 in league play with Yanis Moundir clinching it with a three-set battle at No. 4 singles.

🔼 New Beginnings. Former ODU legend Justin Verlander toed the rubber for the start of his 20th MLB season on Saturday, this time donning a brand new uniform.
Making his debut with the San Francisco Giants, the fourth organization of his big league career, Verlander tossed 5.0 solid innings, scattering six hits, striking out five and allowing just two runs.
Verlander is now 79 strikeouts away from becoming just the 10th pitcher in Major League history to reach 3,500 for his career.

🔼 Pleading The Fifth. For the second time this year, the ODU men’s golf team earned a top-five finish.
The Monarchs powered their way to a 7-over for a fifth place finish at the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate. ODU was led by Jacob Gunther, who earned a top-10 finish with a 1-under in Sunday’s final round.
It also marked the third straight year that the Monarchs had earned a top-five finish at the event.

After going 4-for-6 in Saturday’s doubleheader split at App State, Zach Leite added to his team leading .351 batting average.
