🔼 Tourney Time. After taking the TowneBank Royal Rivalry series against JMU over the weekend, the ODU Baseball squad clinched a spot in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament this week.
The Monarchs enter as the eighth seed and will play a single-elimination game against ninth-seeded Georgia State tomorrow night in Montgomery.
First pitch at DABOS Park, formerly Riverwalk Stadium, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
🔼 Honoring A Legend. ODU Athletics Director Dr. Wood Selig will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Norfolk Sports Club at its annual Jamboree on June 18, the organization announced.
It is the third time in Selig’s career receiving an award from the Norfolk Sports Club, as he twice was named the Tom Fergusson Memorial Award Winner for Metropolitan Person of the Year in sport.
Under Selig’s leadership, there have been several firsts posted by Monarch athletics since Selig arrived in 2010. Men’s basketball achieved its first ever national AP top 25 ranking in 2014-15, baseball achieved its highest ever final season ranking of 16th in 2021 earning a number one seed in the NCAA tournament, football earned its highest FBS final ranking ever of 34th in 2025, and women’s tennis finished 27th nationally in 2022.
🔼 Making Waves. The ODU Rowing team wrapped up its season with an impressive fifth-place finish at this past weekend’s Big 12 Championship in Sarasota, Fla.
The 26 points scored by the Monarchs was the most-ever scored at a championship meet.
🎥 A NIGHT TO REMEMBER
Last week, ODU athletics hosted the annual Golden Monarch Awards at Chartway Arena. Awards were given out for Athlete of the Year, Freshman of the Year,
Scholar-Athlete, Spark Plug, Community Service, Mr. and Ms. Monarch
and the Monarch Cup.
