Monarch Brew 6/22: Reunited And It Feels So Good!

Monarchs Back Together, Hitting the Courts For Summer Workouts

Good Morning, ODU Fam. We can’t wait to see what this chapter is going to bring for the Lady Monarchs!

What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew? Check it out below!

🦁 And much more!

🏈 COUNTIN’ DOWN: 75 DAYS TIL KICKOFF

Throughout the summer, we will be counting down the days
to the return of ODU Football this fall. The Monarchs will host
Norfolk State on September 5 at 6 p.m.

Last fall, the ODU offense put together a record-setting season with 3,098 yards on the ground, the most-ever in a single-season for the Monarchs.

Helping anchor the way up front was #75 Skyler Grant, who was a critical piece of the ODU offensive line unit up until his graduation this past May.

Grant started all 13 games at left guard last season and played in 36 games over the past three years at ODU.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Don’t Miss It. DICK'S House of Sport Chesapeake is set to host Old Dominion University Athletics for the third annual Fan Fest event on Saturday, August 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This event will feature new Under Armour product, ODU branded drinkware, tailgate essentials, local licensed vendors and falls on Virginia's tax-free weekend.  Also, fans can expect to dance with Big Blue, interact with coaches, and participate in games for giveaways and prizes! Other special guests will be announced at a later date.

ODU’s Director of Broadcasting Ted Alexander will host a special edition of the ODU Football Coach’s Show on site with head coach Ricky Rahne from 2-3 p.m.

🔼 Smarty ‘Cats. On the field wasn’t the only place the Monarchs had success this past year.

This past week, five different programs had student-athletes recognized for their hard work in the classroom.

Barbara Car (women’s golf), Maddie Enns (rowing), Joe MacPherson (men’s golf), James Page (men’s golf), Brynn Bowen (women’s lacrosse), Suus Broers (field hockey) and Serena Langendoen (field hockey) all earned CSC Academic All-District Accolades in their respective sports.

🔼 Lock ‘Em In. The fall sports schedule is officially locked in for the Monarchs.

Late last week, ODU women's volleyball head coach Fred Chao unveiled the program’s full slate for the upcoming 2026 season.

The Monarchs will host two tournaments and compete in two more. ODU’s non-conference slate includes matches against teams representing the A10, ACC, American, Big 10, BIG EAST, Big South, CAA, MEAC, and the Patriot League.

“We have a strong non-conference schedule ahead of us, but I know our squad will be up for the challenge. Our focus will be on integrating our new players with our returners to find our best line up as quickly as possible. It won’t be simple but I’m excited to figure it out. With quality non-conference opponents, we should be well-prepared for the Sun Belt battles ahead,” said Chao.
