🔼 Here We Go! If you couldn’t tell by the whistles blowing around campus, ODU football is officially back in action.
On Wednesday, the Monarchs returned to the practice field for their first day of training camp ahead of their season opener later this month in Indiana.
🔼 Back To Work. The football squad wasn’t the only one returning to the field this week as the ODU women’s soccer team is back on the prowl for another conference championship.
Last fall, the Lady Monarchs had their streak of three straight conference titles stopped, but are locked and loaded for another run in 2025.
🔼 Academic Aces. The honors continue to roll in for the ODU men’s golf squad.
Earlier this week, a trio of Monarchs were named 2024-25 Cobalt All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Jacob Gunther, Kaijun Ma and Philip Minnehan were all recognized.
This is the third time in his career that Gunther has been named a GCAA All-America Scholar and it is the second time for both Ma and Minnehan.
To be eligible for the award, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA, or receiving their associate’s degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA.
🔼 Trench Mafia. Nearly every football expert out there talks about the importance of building in the trenches.
For the ODU offense, those trenches start up front with Zach Barlev, a talented an athletic transfer from Illinois.
⏱️ COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: 2️⃣9️⃣ DAYS
In honor of the 29 days until ODU football season….

After the injury to Thomas DeMarco five games into the 2011 season,
the ODU football program wasn’t sure what to expect with Taylor Heinicke
taking over the reigns at QB against UMass.
What followed was a season in which the gunslinger was responsible for 2️⃣9️⃣ TDs,
the third-highest in a single season in program history at the time.
That would be the lowest of Heinicke’s incredible career as he followed
with seasons of 55, 38 and 32. Not too shabby.
🦁 MONARCH TRIVIA

Outside of DeMarco and Heinicke, who is the only other Monarch to post a season with 30+ TDs responsible for?
