🏈 COUNTIN’ DOWN: 2️⃣2️⃣ DAYS TIL KICKOFF
Throughout the summer, we will be counting down the days
to the return of ODU Football this fall. The Monarchs will host
Norfolk State on September 5 at 6 p.m.
After playing in 16 games over the past two seasons, including all 13 last year for the Monarchs, redshirt sophomore linebacker AJ Ashworth is looking to earn more playing this upcoming fall for the ODU defensive unit.
The Galax, Va., native primarily played on special teams last season for the Monarchs, racking up 11 tackles and forcing a fumble.
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Making The List. Heading into his final season at ODU, Mario Easterly has high expectations for himself and it appears those expectations aren’t just his own.
This week, Easterly was named to the Jim Thorpe Award Watch List, which recognizes the top defensive back in all of college football. The list includes 35 of the nation’s best defensive backs, representing ten conferences and one independent university.
Easterly led the Monarchs in tackles a season ago with 80, starting all 13 games at safety. He added four pass breakups, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and an interception.
🔼 Preseason Praise. While the season is still a few days away, senior Lewis Rourke of the ODU men’s soccer team is already receiving recognition.
This week, Rourke was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt team heading into the upcoming 2026 season.
Last season, Rourke earned All-Sun Belt Second Team accolades after a 10-goal, three-assist, and 23-point campaign.
🔼 Smarty Cats. The ODU women’s rowing program found success both on the water and in the classroom this past spring.
This week, the Monarchs had had 12 student-athletes selected to the Big 12 Spring Academic Team.
Old Dominion’s Sophie Bell, Caroline Cotton, Naomi Dausman, Austin Douglas, Madeleine Enns, Ellen Gortz, Nicole Knight, Helen Schuette, Trinity Scofield, Emiy Rogerson, and Liv Joergensen were all named to the team.
