The time has come.
Our Monarchs are officially BACK! That’s right, this week, the practice fields in Norfolk were jammed with excitement, athleticism and plenty of whistles blowing.
Coming off another bowl appearance last fall, ODU opened preseason camp with plenty of new faces, including 57 signees, 28 of which are from the transfer portal.
🦁 SEE YOU TOMORROW!
Clear the calendars - you’ve got plans TOMORROW!
ODU is set to host a special Fan Fest this Saturday, Aug. 3 at Dick’s House of Sport in Chesapeake from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The football fellas aren’t the ones hitting the practice fields this week as the reigning two-time Sun Belt Conference Champions hit the pitch to begin their preseason in preparation for the upcoming 2024 campaign.
It’s a much quicker turnaround for the Lady Monarchs who are just 1️⃣3️⃣ days away from their first game.
👀 EYES ON US
And recognition continues to pour in for the Monarchs.
On Thursday, ODU veteran offensive lineman Stephon Dubose-Bourne
was named to the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List.
College Football’s Premier Award for Community Service and one of the most meaningful awards in collegiate sports, The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy is named after Danny Wuerffel, the 1996 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from the University of Florida who parlayed his success on the football field into a lifetime of service. The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy embodies Wuerffel’s commitment to being a humanitarian, while honoring student-athletes who are inspired to serve others and make positive impacts on society. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Trophy’s founding, and the Foundation will recognize the first nineteen recipients throughout the fall season.
Dubose-Bourne started all 13 games at left guard for the Monarchs in 2023. Off the field, Dubose-Bourne, a Chesapeake native, has been a frequent visitor of local schools to talk to students about focusing on good grades and has mentored the offensive linemen at his high school alma mater, Indian River.
🏈 COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: 29 DAYS
Number of the Day: 29
If the last game of the 2023 season was a glimpse into this fall,
Markus Knight is ready for a breakout season with the Monarchs.
Knight, who wears #29 for ODU, is a redshirt junior in his third year with the program and is coming off a season in which he played in 11 games,
both in the defensive backfield and on special teams.
In the Famous Toastery Bowl, the Tallahassee, Fla. native had a career-high
in tackles and his first career fumble recovery. He also showed his
playmaking ability throughout the season, coming up with INTs
against James Madison and Coastal Carolina.
🏈 AND ANOTHER ONE
It’s become a routine at this point.
Another week. Another Watch List recognition for Jason Henderson.
Earlier this week, Henderson was named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List, which recognizes the top defensive player in all of college football.

Answer: 350.
Young held the program record with that number up until last season when some guy named Henderson took over the top spot.
🦁 See you tomorrow, Monarch Nation!
