What a weekend it was for Monarch Nation!

It was awesome to see so many fans come out and enjoy our special Fan Fest this past Saturday at Dick’s House of Sport in Chesapeake.

Fans got to meet a slew of ODU coaches and listen in on the very first Ricky Rahne Coach’s Show of the season!

Located on Greenbriar Square in Chesapeake, Dick’s House of Sport has the new 2024 ODU athletics gear in stock, including new UnderArmour products and much more. The event included plenty of great prizes and giveaways as well!

🔼 Show Stopper. Coming off her best season of her career, senior goalkeeper Emily Bredek of the ODU women’s soccer team is ready to go out with a bang.

Over the weekend, Bredek was recognized nationally with a spot on the Goalkeepers to Watch list by the United Soccer Coaches Association.

In 2023, she was named Sun Belt Goalkeeper of the Year, First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-Southeast Region. She appeared in 21 matches with 20 starts for the Monarchs, while logging 1,907 minutes for the season with a 0.52 goals-against-average and 56 saves with a 12-3-5 record.

She was instrumental in the Monarchs start going over 540 minutes to begin the season without allowing a goal. Bredek set a single-season program record mark for shutouts (11) and save percentage (.836).

🔼 Pitch Perfect. The ODU soccer teams are putting in work on the field to prepare for the upcoming 2024 season.

Last year, they put on work on the field and in the classroom.

Late last week, both programs earned recognition from the United Soccer Coaches Association by earning the 2023-24 Team Academic Awards.

For the men, it marked the first time since the award was instituted in 1996 that the Monarchs were honored by the association. For the 2023-24 year, the team compiled a 3.29 GPA and was one of 168 men’s teams to receive the award.

On the women’s side, it marked the fourth time under head coach Angie Hind that the Monarchs were recognized and the sixth time in program history. For the 2023-24 academic year, the Monarchs sported a 3.58 GPA and was one of 237 women’s teams to receive the award.

🔼 What A Ride. A magical ride came to an end over the weekend as former ODU All-American Stephanie Roble and her sailing partner, Maggie Shea, concluded their run at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Roble and Shea earned a spot in the medal race of the women’s skiff, finishing 10th in the world in the competition.

Way to go Stephanie!

🏈 COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: 26 DAYS

In just his first season at ODU, Kelby Williams tallied 26 catches
for 451 yards, the second-highest total on last year’s squad.

Williams arrived from Trinity Valley Junior College and registered
a catch in 10 of the 12 games he played in last fall.
