🔼 Sunday Funday. Many people use the Sunday of Labor Day weekend to enjoy one final trip to the beach or to gather with some friends.

The ODU field hockey squad used it to have some fun at home, rolling past nearby rival William & Mary, 6-0, for their first win of 2025.

Five different Monarchs scored in the contest, led by Central Michigan transfer Cosima Perleth, who found the back of the cage twice.

🔼 Vintage Verlander. ODU legend Justin Verlander gave all of Major League Baseball a glimpse of the past on Sunday, tossing five shutout innings in the Giants’ home win over the Orioles.

It was the third win of the year for Verlander and 264th of his career to move into a tie for 40th all-time in MLB history. The 10 strikeouts moves him into sole possession of ninth on the all-time list, ahead of Hall of Famer Walter Johnson.

🔼 Back To Batlin’. Entering Saturday’s opener in Bloomington, ODU were 24-point underdogs to the 20th-ranked Hoosiers, who were coming off an 11-2 season last fall and a berth in the College Football Playoff.

But the Monarchs weren’t fazed early on, jumping up 7-0 and gave Indiana a scare, but ultimately, dropped a tough 27-14 decision to the Hoosiers.
