🔼 And The Awards Go To…. The Emmys weren’t the only awards being dished out this week.
ODU sophomore standout Colton Joseph earned not one, but ✌️ honors this week. He was named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week, as well as being named to the Davey O'Brien Award's Great 8 list.
Joseph completed 16-of-22 passes for 276 yards and two touchdowns in the 45-26 win at Virginia Tech. He also rushed eight times for 63 yards and a touchdown.
The victory at Virginia Tech was the first in program history at a Power-Four opponent and third in ODU history against Virginia Tech.
Joseph is second in the country among quarterbacks with 97 rushing yards per game and tied for second with four rushing touchdowns. He has rushed for a touchdown in all three games this season.
🔼 Still Got It. In case anyone was doubting him, all you have to do is look at Friday night’s boxscore.
ODU legend Justin Verlander continued to add to his Cooperstown resume as the 42-year old joined an elite club with a seven-inning, one-run performance against the Los Angeles Dodgers last Friday. He became just the eighth pitcher ALL TIME to allow one or fewer runs in a three-start span at 42+ years old.
Verlander is now up to eighth all-time in career strikeouts (3,540) and is one of 40 pitchers all-time with 265+ wins.
🔼 Set Your Clocks. Coming off a thrilling win over Virginia Tech this past Saturday, the Monarchs will welcome another in-state rival to town next weekend.
🔼 Come Sail Away. ODU Sailing competed in three events over the weekend as Gianna Dewey led the way with a second place finish at the Faye Bennet MAISA Women’s singles regatta.
Dewey finished second with a race win and delivered five top-five finishes. Esther Ireland followed closely behind coming in at third place, also placing top five in five finishes. Arabella Duer placed fifth and secured the top five spot in four races.
The Monarchs placed fourth at the Chesapeake Invitational.
