🔼 Duked ‘Em Out. Stifling defense and timely scoring has been a staple of the ODU women’s soccer program during Angie Hind’s reign at the helm of the Monarchs.
So, there was no more fitting way for Hind to earn her 100th career victory at ODU than with a 1-0 victory over rival JMU in the annual TowneBank Royal Rivalry showdown.
ODU applied pressure on the JMU defensive line early and often. The team’s efforts paid dividends early in the contest, with Ashlynn Kulha connecting from a corner kick that was sent in by Yuliia Khrystiuk.
The Monarchs defense, marshalled by Kulha, were able to hold the Dukes to only four shots in the second half.
🔼 Getting Defensive. Earlier this week, ODU field hockey’s Serena Langendoen was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, while Josie Painter was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
A sophomore from The Netherlands, Langendoen recorded a hat trick in ODU’s 7-0 win over Wagner. She has four goals and one assist so far this season.
Painter recorded two goals in the 7-0 win against Wagner. She has achieved ten points for five goals on 10 shots this season.
The duo and their teammates open up BIG EAST play later today when they travel to Providence to battle the Friars in a 2:30 pm showdown.
🔼 Fresh New Look. Former ODU All-American Rick Lovato has a new look entering his 11th season in the NFL.
The long-time Pro Bowl long snapper is now with the Los Angeles Chargers, who are off to a 2-0 start to the 2025 season.
The Chargers’ special teams unit is a perfect 4-for-4 on field goals and 5-for-5 on extra points through the first two games.
With nine more games, Lovato would become the first former Monarch to reach 150+ games played in the NFL.
