Good Morning ODU Fam. A winning weekend is always a good one. When its a four win weekend, it’s even better.

🔼 Brooms, Please. What a weekend for the Lady Monarchs.

In just its fifth year of existence, the ODU volleyball squad continues to turn heads.

A month into the 2024 season, the Monarchs have put together the longest win streak in program history (eight straight) and are off to the best start in program history (11-2) after sweeping their way through the ODU Invitational.

Myah Conway, Hailee Blankenship and Kate Kilpatrick were named to the All-Tournament Team with Conway adding Tournament MVP honors. For the weekend, the senior right side hitter scored 43 kills, averaging 3.91 per set, while hitting for a .388 attack percentage.

Blankenship swung for a .262 mark with 22 kills and 17 digs in ODU’s three matches and Kilpatrick ended up with 40 digs (3.64 per set) with a .938 serve receive percentage.

🔼 Putting Out The Flames. Playing against an in-state rival is never easy. Playing against that rival as a conference opponent takes it up a level. That rival being a team ranked in the top-15 nationally made it the recipe that the ODU field hockey squad faced on Friday.

The reigning BIG EAST Champs pulled out a thriller over 11th-ranked Liberty, getting a goal in the final three minutes of the contest to bring home a 3-2 victory and improve to 5-2 on the year.

ODU’s only two losses of the season have come to top-10 ranked opponents.

Serena Langendoen scored two of the Monarchs’ three goals, including the game winner in the 58th minute off a penalty corner. Suus Broers was once again a force in the cage, picking up six saves and keeping the potent Liberty offense off the board for the first three periods.

🔼 All Tied Up. The reigning Sun Belt Champs opened conference play with a doozy.

ODU just every bit of 90 minutes to fight their way to a 1-1 tie against Coastal Carolina in the conference opener for both squads.

Brooke Edwards was on the receiving end of a Yuliia Khrystiuk feed at the 82:49 mark of the second half and found the back of the net to earn the point for the Lady Monarchs.

🦁 MONARCH TRIVIA

As we mentioned, the defensive unit of the ODU field hockey squad held a potent Liberty offense to no goals in the first half of Friday’s win.
