🔼 Turkey Hunting. Old Dominion Head Women’s Soccer Coach Angie Hind is accustomed to receiving Gatorade baths only after winning conference championships. But after the Monarchs upset a nationally-ranked team for the first time in her 12 seasons, her players felt like she deserved another.

The Monarchs got goals from Brooke Edwards and Riley Mullen, and played near-perfect defense, to defeat No. 20 Virginia Tech, 2-1, Thursday night before a raucous crowd at ODU Soccer Complex.

It was ODU’s first win over a ranked team since 1998, when the Monarchs upset No. 24 George Washington, and the first victory over the Hokies since 1999.

It was also the second home victory for ODU (3-1-1) over a power conference school in less than two weeks – the Monarchs defeated Maryland, 2-0, on Aug. 24.

🔼 They’re Backkk. After a tough battle against 20th-ranked Indiana this past weekend in Bloomington, the ODU football squad is ready to be back in the comforts of home and will do so TOMORROW when NC Central comes to town.

The game isn’t the only thing on tap as Kaufman Mall will be amped and ready for game day!

The Monarchs are coming off the loss to the Hoosiers in which they showed flashes of potential for the rest of the season.

Kickoff this weekend at Ballard Stadium is set for 6 pm.

🔼 Path To The Pros. Not only do the Monarchs return home this weekend, but a pair of ODU alums will be lacing them up this weekend on the opening weekend in the NFL.

Stone Smartt (Jets) and Rick Lovato (Chargers) are both on NFL regular season rosters, while Tre Hawkins III (Giants) and Nick Saldiveri (Saints) both suffered season-ending injuries and will spend the year on the IR list.

Lovatto will be starting his 11th NFL season when the Chargers taking on the defending AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs tonight, while Smartt is entering his fourth season and first with the Jets after a career year in Los Angeles last year.

This was actually the second game against a top-20 opponent for the ODU women’s soccer team already this season.
