🔼 Just Getting Started. Redshirt sophomore Quinn Henicle accounted for four touchdowns and the ODU defense stifled Norfolk State all night long to lead the Monarchs to a 31-10 defeat of the Spartans in the season opener at Kornblau Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium on Saturday night.
ODU wore camo jerseys on Saturday night to honor Lt. Col. Brandon Shah. The jerseys went on sale before the game and were sold out within an hour. All proceeds from the jersey sale go to the Lt. Col. Brandon Shah Leadership Foundation.
🔼 Forever Enshrined. During Saturday’s win over Norfolk State, an ODU legend got a surprise as the Monarchs announced that the 2012 Walter Payton Award winner Taylor Heinicke will have his jersey retired by Old Dominion University during halftime of the Thursday night game on October 15 against Georgia Southern.
From 2011 to 2014, Heinicke helped lead ODU Football’s transition from FCS to FBS while setting 33 program records, including 132 career touchdowns and 14,959 passing yards.

It may have taken 72 minutes to break open the game, but when it happened, it happened in a big way.
The ODU men’s soccer team moved to 5-0 for the first time since 2012 with a 3-0 defeat of Bucknell on Sunday afternoon.
All three of ODU’s goals were scored in the final 18 minutes of the contest.
🔼 Sunday Cellys. The 18th-ranked ODU field hockey team capped off a trip to Chapel Hill this weekend with its second shutout of the season, a 3-0 defeat of a tough Penn squad.
Serena Langendoen had a goal and an assist to lead the offensive attack, while standout goalkeeper Suus Broers picked up her 13th career shutout for the Monarchs.
