🔼 Not In Our House! We waited over nine months, what’s a few more hours? And man, was it worth the wait!

Despite a weather delay to kick off the home opener, the ODU defense capped off an absolute thrilling night at Ballard Stadium with a fourth-quarter, goal line stand to give the Monarchs a HUGE 38-31 win over perennial Sun Belt contender Louisiana on Saturday night.

Junior QB Grant Wilson was outstanding, finishing 13-of-19 for 247 yards and four passing TDs. Classmate and backfield mate Keshawn Wicks posted a career best 103 yards on 17 carries.

And of course, All-American Jason Henderson did what he always does, yet another double-digit tackle performance with 17. It’s the 17th double-digit tackle performance of his young career and moves him within eight of 300 career tackles, just two games into his junior season.

🔼 Riding High. Anytime you accomplish something that hasn’t happened in over 10 years, you’re doing something right.

The victory moves them to 1-0-3 on the season, marking the first time the Monarchs have gone unbeaten in the first four games of a season since 2012. That season ended with a conference championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Second half goals from Key White and Karan Mandair propelled ODU past the Highlanders, while the Monarchs defense limited Radford to just six shots on the night.

🔼 The Exclamation Point. The reigning Sun Belt Conference Champions put an exclamation point on their non-conference schedule on Sunday afternoon.

Two Division I women’s soccer teams in the entire country have allowed just one goal in seven games this fall. One of those teams resides in Norfolk.

ODU posted its sixth shutout of the season with a thrilling 3-0 home win over High Point to improve to 5-0-2 and currently are tied with Iowa with the lowest goals against average in the country (0.14).

🔼 Toe-To-Toe. Facing one of the national championship contenders is never an easy task.

Freshman Suus Broers had 10 saves in the contest and Frederique Zandbergen scored her first goal of the season to stand out for the Blue and White.

🔼 Lion Tamers. Junior Myah Conway is usually one of the focal point of the opposition’s scouting report. Sometimes, it doesn’t really matter.

Newcomers Elisa Maggi and Alice Munari combined for 33 kills, while senior Teresa Atilano posted the second-highest assist total of her illustrious career with 55, the most since her 57 against Florida Atlantic in the COVID spring 2021 season.

🤔 MONARCH TRIVIA

Grant Wilson’s four passing TDs on Saturday was a performance that was thrilling to watch and brought back memories of past ODU gunslingers.

It was the most passing TDs in a game by a Monarch QB since Blake LaRussa tossed for four in a 49-35 upset of Virginia Tech back in 2018. You might remember that game?

In that win over the Hokies, three of LaRussa’s four TDs ended up in the hands of one guy. Which Monarch had three receiving TDs on that day back in 2018?
