Men's Soccer Remains Unbeaten Through 10 Games

Happy Wednesday Monarchs. All of Monarch Nation knew that head coach Alan Dawson deserved a legendary sendoff in his final season.

Well, the fellas are coming through as the Monarchs served up a Perfect 10 on Tuesday night and are 🔥🔥🔥 right now!

What all do we have stirring in today’s edition of the Brew? Check it out!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 A Perfect 10. Well, there’s no doubt about it. The ODU men’s soccer team wanted to send out Coach Alan Dawson with a bang.

The Monarchs are doing just that as they remained unbeaten in 2023 with their third straight victory, a 1-0 defeat of Campbell, at home on Tuesday night.

A first-half PK from junior Karan Mandair and a stifling defense effort lead the Blue & Gray to another victory.

🔼 Super Swedes. What a duo.

Sweden natives Jakob Henriksson and Jacob Gunther both finished under par to lead the ODU men's golf team at the Ironwood Collegiate Classic, hosted by East Carolina this week.

The duo finished in the top-15 with Henriksson finishing seventh and Gunther tied for 13th.

🔼 Brothers For Life. The newest Monarch is the best signee in program history.

On Monday, ODU men’s soccer announced the signing of seven-year-old Waylen Cheatham, who joined the team through Team IMPACT.

Cheatham, who was born with a number of congenital heart defects, officially signed with the team on Saturday at the ODU Soccer Complex. He will participate in many activities with his new teammates, including games, practices and other team events. Cheatham is a second grader at Middlesex Elementary School and is from Hartfield, Virginia.

🏈 ON THE ROAD AGAIN

After three straight weeks in the friendly confines of Ballard Stadium, the ODU football team is back on the road for the second straight week, this time heading to Hattiesburg for a crucial Sun Belt showdown with Southern Miss.

This is the first matchup between the two schools since 2016 when the Monarchs won an absolute shootout, 51-36, here in Norfolk.

🦁 SUPPORT YOUR MONARCHS

Support your Monarchs and get 🔥🔥 gear? That’s a no brainer.

ODU has partnered with AthletesThreads.com to give fans the opportunity to purchase specialized Monarch gear to support the student-athletes NIL fund.

💪 RIVALRY RENEWED

TowneBank is a longstanding supporter of college athletics, and we are excited to cheer along the healthy competition for the second year of the TowneBank Royal Rivalry Challenge between Old Dominion University and James Madison University.

We are fortunate to have a strong alumni base on both sides of the rivalry within the Towne family, and we look forward to seeing who will hoist the crown for the 2023-2024 academic year.

🤔 MONARCH TRIVIA

Fantastic Futbol. We are now nearly two months into the 2023 seasons for ODU soccer and the Monarchs are nearly pitch perfect.

In the first 20 combined games, the men’s and women’s team have a combined record of 12-1-7 with the only loss being a one-goal decision.

How many schools nationwide have one loss or less between their men’s and women’s soccer teams combined record?

Got a guess?

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: Five.

ODU is one of just five schools to have a combined record with one loss or less this soccer season. Joining the Monarchs is UNC, Missouri State, Stanford and Penn State.

UNC is the only school with neither team suffering a loss yet this fall.

🦁 Let’s have a great Wednesday, Monarchs!
