We got all the Saturday night entertainment you need at Ballard Stadium and the NFL Network.

For the first-time ever, the Monarchs will be playing on NFL Network when they host perennial Sun Belt power Appalachian State in a huge East Division contest.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Deuces Wild. Newport News’ own Chaunce Jenkins always carries high expectations for himself.

This week, our guy #2 received some expectations from the Sun Belt head coaches as Jenkins was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team, while the Monarchs were slotted third in the preseason poll.

ODU received one first-place vote and totaled 154 points to finish third. App State was just ahead of them in second with two first-place votes and 159 points. JMU was selected to win the league with seven first-place votes and 176 points.

Last season, Jenkins was named All-Sun Belt Third Team after averaging 13.5 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. He played in 31 games and started 17 of those. An electrifying leaper who will get to the rim, he scored in double figures in 23 games with a stretch of six straight and 11 out of 12.

The Monarchs return six players from last year's 19-12 team and have nine newcomers joining the mix as they'll open with an exhibition game against Virginia State on October 25 at 7 p.m.

🔼 “I’m Ron Burgundy?” Not sure if Jakob and Cosme will meet Ron Burgundy, but they’re headed to his hometown.

The ODU men’s tennis duo of senior Jakob Cadonau and sophomore Cosme Rolland de Ravel scored a 6-4, 6-2 win over Matisse Bobichon and Mathis Bondaz of VCU to claim the 2023 ITA Atlantic Regional doubles title on Monday evening.

With the win, the duo now advances to the 2023 ITA Fall Nationals to be held in San Diego, California from November 1-5.

This marks the fourth time a doubles tandem has won the ITA Atlantic Regional under head coach Dominik Mueller.

🔼 “Motivation” Intensity may have been ratcheted up a few notches over the past few days for the ODU women’s basketball program.

“Motivation”

That was the simple answer given when the Monarchs were asked about the preseason Sun Belt poll for the upcoming 2023-24 women’s basketball season.

The Monarchs, who reached the conference tournament semifinals last season, received 149 total points to finish fourth in the poll of the league’s 14 head coaches. Defending Sun Belt champion James Madison was picked as the preseason favorite. Troy landed in the No. 2 spot followed by Southern Miss at No. 3.

ODU returns five players from last year's squad that finished 22-12 overall and 12-6 against Sun Belt opponents. Guards Kaye Clark and Jordan McLaughlin are the two starters back for the Monarchs, and other returners include guard Joy Campbell, center Mikayla Brown and forward Brenda Fontana.

🔼 Getting Defensive. Junior keeper Emily Bredek is having a year for the books. Literally.

Bredek, from Huntington Beach, California, tied the school single season record with her ninth shutout as the Monarchs blanked App State 1-0 last Friday night.

On the year, she leads the nation in goals against average (0.291), third in save percentage (.902) and fifth in shutouts with nine.

🔼 Awards Aplenty. While the ODU women’s soccer team is supplying the defense, the Monarchs field hockey team is supplying the offense.

Powering the current seven game-win streak for the Blue & Gray is senior Marlon de Bruijne, who’s big week earned her the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honor, for the third time this fall.

de Bruijne helped the Monarchs to a 2-0 weekend and extended the team's win streak to seven games when she scored two goals with two assists in a 6-5 win over Villanova on Friday. She scored her third goal of the weekend on a penalty stroke in a 4-0 win over Richmond on Sunday.

Doublin’ Down. With Cadonau and Rolland de Ravel’s championship victory this week in Lynchburg, it marked the fourth time a doubles tandem has won the ITA Atlantic Regional under head coach Dominik Mueller.

Who was the first pair of Monarchs to win such a title under Mueller’s guidance?
